Okay, so she'd found possibly the coolest birthday present ever, and she was pretty pleased with it. But was it appropriate? Madeleine knew enough about Lee to know that he'd like the present, but she knew absolutely nothing about protocol on what to give your boyfriend for his birthday. And seeing as the only person she could really ask was Olivia... Well, it was probably better that she took this risk. Glancing at the two silver-wrapped parcels beside her, she used her limited psychokinesis to curl the shiny ribbons tied neatly around them. Kira was sitting opposite her, and so the smile that Madeleine had been wearing earlier had faded somewhat. No matter what Lee said about Kira being 'his problem', Madeleine still couldn't shake off the feeling that she should be doing something to try and offset Kira's ... strong dislike for her. Hate was a strong word - but was it appropriate in this case? She saw Lee walk down the stairs and she jumped off her seat and bounded forward to him. "Happy sweet sixteeeeenth..."

Remember, remember the 5th of November... "Happy birthday to me," Lee smiled at Madeleine, taking the parcels from her. She was breathless with excitement and breathtaking to boot, as per usual. He couldn't resist. Stepping forward, he slipped his free hand around her waist and pulled her in for a kiss. Or two. Or three. Breaking free with a sheepish grin, he turned to Kira, who sat perfectly still, watching the crackling fire determinedly, with a slight shadow of a frown on her face. Sighing, Lee came over to her and rapped her on the head. "Happy birthday, then," she said, her frozen facade melting into a smile automatically. "Your present's over there. For now, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone." That forced trace of her past blessing of their relationship felt like a cold slap in the face, even though she didn't mean it. He watched her get up and leave, then sighed, and looked at Madeleine. "Can I open them?"

Madeleine's smile slipped a couple of notches and the familiar exhilaration from when Lee kissed her ebbed away slightly as Kira spoke in that icy tone, and left the room. She really does hate me. Lee sighed and turned to Madeleine again. "Can I open them?" "Sure," she said, smiling again, anticipating the look on his face and prodding one of them. "That one first." He looked at her questioningly She grinned up at him. "I figured that you should have something other than Nintendogs to play..."

Lee frowned. He was a little over-protective of his Nintendogs game, and tired of getting the mick taken out of him for it. Still, it was his birthday. He had to be good-humoured and grateful. Ugh. Ripping open his present, Lee felt his mouth fall slightly open. "M... My Little Pony?!"

Madeleine shrugged, fighting the smile back. "Well, I thought you'd like it..." Then, something in the expression on his face made her burst out laughing, the peals ringing in the empty room. "I'm kidding! Relax, I wouldn't get you something like that for your real present..." She knew that the look on his face would be absolutely priceless - that was why she'd bought it. If she'd actually found him being excited at pink and purple sparkly horses... So that was why she'd bought him Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - a lot more masculine, a hell of a lot more fun, and it had old punk songs covered by new bands, so there was his music lesson subconsciously embedded in there... She poked the second parcel. "Open."

He felt a wave of relief wash over him as he unwrapped the next present. It was a Tony Hawks deal- a skateboarding game. The most experience Lee had of skateboards was the hoverboard the twins always fought over back home, and he'd always been pretty wick at that. Hence the wings. They were better. "Thanks, Madeleine," Lee looked up and smiled at her, kissing her again. "For the second one. Still not so sure about the first."

"No, well, I sort of hoped that you wouldn't like it," she admitted, succombing to his kiss. "But I'm glad you like the second one. According to a couple of guys I know that own a DS, it's really good." She reached up, standing on her toes and kissed him again. "So how does it feel to be sixteen?"

"Pretty good," he laughed, smiling at her. "Hey- I can get a motorcycle now!" Wow, that'd be so awesome.

Madeleine chuckled. "You could..." A motorcycle. Somehow, she couldn't really see the school staff being happy about that. And besides, Shaun had always referred to them as being a number other things, namely "stupid" or "reckless" or "bloody deathtraps!" Oh, well. "Might not be the best idea though," she added, but still smiling.

Lee shrugged. "I'd be wick at it anyway." He paused thoughtfully, mulling it over. "I could conjure one up though... as a birthday treat. I hear Jude's pretty tight with the local farmer; he could set us up with a bit of a deal. Riding across field after field of... well, you get the picture."

Madeleine smiled to herself as she heard a disparaging comment inside her head in Shaun's voice. After all, the closest thing Madeleine had to an uncle (her dad's best friend) had a motorbike, and he'd never so much as gained a scratch on the thing or himself. "Who says you'd be wick at it?" she demanded, her lips curving into a grin. "I think you could manage it. You could even pull off the leather biker jacket. If that's what you really want, then... go for it."

Lee jumped up, and hugged Madeleine impulsively- more for the sake of hugging her than anything else. He kissed her on the cheek, curling a couple of her locks around his fingers. "And if I were to get one... and wear the whole leather jacket look... would you get back into that catsuit?" He couldn't help it. Jude really was having a bad influence on him.

Madeleine would have playfully hit him were it not for the fact that his fingers in her hair was so distracting. "You liked that, did you?" she laughed.

Lee's blush was overdue. "It did suit you. And I'm not just saying that because of... of..." She'd get the picture.

She laughed as she watched his cheeks colour deliciously. "Oh, I'm sure," she chuckled. "No, don't worry. I know what you mean," she said, leaning forward to kiss him lightly. "And thanks, but I'll have to disappoint you. I am never letting Olivia dress me again. I think that Shaun is spitting in consternation up there. But if you asked me as a birthday favour... well, no. Still wouldn't."
