He laughed at her. "Fair enough. I mean, if you ever asked me to parade around in a banana hammock-" He stopped, stammering, and stepping backwards as though he'd just recieved an electric shock. He hadn't just said that. He hadn't!

Madeleine started to laugh again at the expression on his face as he jumped back. "Okay, it totally wasn't that revealing... but I'm glad you see my point."

Grimacing, Lee sank down onto a squashy armchair. "Happy birthday to me then."

"Any mail from your parents?" Madeleine asked, dropping into an armchair opposite him.

Imediately, Lee felt his muscles tense. "No," he replied. "None. You?"

"Why would I get mail when my parents are in the village?" Madeleine asked, raising an eyebrow. "Besides, it's not my birthday."

"None," he repeated, surprised by the glum note in his voice. "None." She'd been too mad at him anyway.

She didn't fail to hear the depressed note in his voice, and smiled reassuringly. "Maybe the post's late, I'm sure that's all."

"I'm sure that's what it is," he said softly. "Yes. You're right." It's already arrived this week. "I wonder how much money I'll get..."

Madeleine chuckled. "And guys say that women are all about money..."

"Aren't we all?" he asked her wickedly, pleased to be moving away from the topic.

"Golddigga," teased Madeleine. "I won't do the song, I promise. My rapping is even worse than my singing, if that's possible." And her singing was too awful for words...

Lee winced. "There's a song?" Yeah, that really was pathetic. Madeleine gave him the same exasperated look every single time her was forced to ask her a question that revolved around his musical knowledge- or rather, his lack of it. It was funny, he liked music, he really did, he just never... was good with the names? The bands? Whatever they were. Still, Kira told him he was an alright singer, so he could at least take that in his stride. And he could play the harmonica. How cool was he?

"There's a song," Madeleine confirmed, rolling her eyes teasingly. "It's Kanye West - and it's awful. It's actually kinda good that you haven't heard it... don't listen to it. Ever."

"Oh, I've heard of him!" Lee said excitedly, suddenly feeling quite proud. "I have. He wears sunglasses, doesn't he?" Him and half the other bloody celebrities on the planet... "No, I can't rap either," he laughed. "And I wouldn't dare try. My harmonica's all I need." Oh. His secret had been revealed.
