Lee had his Nintendo out again, and Tony Hawk was currently grinding along a rail through the skatepark. Lee dragged the little stick across the screen with lightning precision and speed- and little Tony was put through his gravity-defying, illogical and musical paces. Well, the music was muted, because Prof. Gregg had come along and yelled at him about it, but still. Evil old hag. Young hag, actually. Prof. Gregg was surprisingly young to be so... hateful. 6,500 points. New record. Madeleine would be proud. The world hadn't changed much since he turned sixteen. Madeleine was still Madeleine- lovable and huggable as ever. Jude was still Jude. Kira was still Kira. Lee was the one who'd had the birthday. Lee was the one who should've changed. But he hadn't. Birthdays really weren't all that big a deal, after all. At least he'd got presents! As he cleared up his mission, Lee paused the game and cricked his neck, sighing as he flitted through his options menu, trying to pick a new location. Suddenly, echoing footsteps reverberated towards him down the usually empty corridor, and he jumped, looking up. But it was only Will. "Hi," he nodded at her.

Will bounced on her feet as she walked through the corridor. She held her books in one hadn and an apple in the other. She was content and happy that Anotn was doing ok. Sh turned tho corridor and spotted a familiar head of hair. He was playing his Nitendo DS. She walked up to him and he jumped up. "Hi," he nodded at her. "Hey Lee," she sang, "Beautiful day isn't it? How have you been keeping? She slumped down to the floor where his back lay and looked up at him. He doesn't look any older than the last time I saw him, she thought. "Oh, here I got you something for you birthday, sorry it's late!" she hoked it out of her bag and gave it to him.

"Awh, Will, you didn't have to," he replied jovially, his hands taking the shining parcel from her greedily. Passing his Nintendo DS to her to hold, he tore open his present- and felt his mouth drop open. The Beatles. An album. An actual album. Better still, as he flipped it over in awe, he caught sight of a fresh pair of earphones. Oh, thank god. "Will," he croaked, surprised by how pleased he was by her present- and how much thought she'd evidently put into it. "Will. Thanks." Then something funny suddenly shot through him. Will was currently in mourning for her dead boyfriend, Anton. And the last time Will and Lee had been alone together... Oh. "How're you coping with... it all?" he asked her awkwardly.

I wish people would stop asking me that! "You're welcome," she stared at the floor, "I'm okay, I guess," She opened his DS and looked at it. "Strange!" she finally said handing it back to him.

He nodded, grinning in spite of himself. "Yeah. It is, isn't it? My friend, Mike, gave it to me last year when he got a new one, and I've been experimenting ever since. Look- have you ever see one of the these before?" Taking the DS from her, he pulled out the little game with a flourish, and held it up for her to see. "It makes pictures and music and everything," he said, proudly. "It's all in there. Inside that little box."

Christmas? Oh, Christ. That should be fun. "How many days now?" he asked her.

"47. I'm excited, what about Kira's birthday? have you gotten her anything yet?" Will asked with mild interest.

"No," Lee grinned sheepishly. "No, I haven't, and I don't know what to get her. Probably a dream catcher- or a journal of some sort, she's always going on about getting one..." He thought guiltily of the present she'd gotten him, and all the time and thought she must've put into it... Then again, Kira had a knack for last-minute improvisation.

"Well there goes that question I was going to ask you," Will said in an aggitated tone. She looked up and grinned at him. "You doing the Ice Hockey?"

Lee shook his head. "As much confidence as I have in Kira's spirit and Jude's agility- no." He laughed. "Jack and Madeleine make a pretty scary couple of players."

Lee laughed. "Chess is mine. How sad. I can play things like football, you know. And I'm a fast runner. Honest." He'd have to be. It could come across as arrogant, but a lot of times Lee felt like he should be an Academic because... well, he was smart. He was. Not genius-standard, he guessed, just logically-minded, but with imagination. If that made sense. Except he was a Spy. He was the cousin of the Head of the Spies. So that fast running thing must come into it, right?

"Hey, if you say you can, I believe you and besides, there's nothing wrong with chess, I love...well I wouldn't go straight to love. More than like, less than love," Will finished lamely.

He laughed. "Like, in-betweeny?" Wow that sounded weird.
