Jack blinked. That was an odd answer. Suddenly, her grin was gone and she looked so... distant. Had he offended her? Jack examined his hand carefully before stretching it out, just in case. "It's not like it's a big deal," he told her, his voice surprising him as he spoke. It was soft; a quality he often didn't adopt unless he was talking to someone who'd recently been knocked out cold on the rugby field. "Draw?" he prompted her. He wished he knew why it was taking her so long to answer. Then again, he wished he knew a lot of things about Will. She was one of those people you wished came with a button that opened up her brain and played it back on a T.V. screen. Maybe then he'd get it a bit better. As it was... she just confused him. Constantly. Jack smiled. Then again, that was probably one of his favourite things about her.

"It's not like it's a big deal," Jack said in a gentle, soft tone. This took her by surprise, she had never heard Jack use that tone of voice. Ever. "Draw?" he prompted her. His hand was out stretched for her to shake it. Her heart started to get faster and she felt warm. Her frown turned into a grin and the grin turned into a smile. She laughed and took his hand, hers soo small compared to his big warm hand. "Draw," she said warmly. She felt radiant. Her heart felt like it was fluttering all over the place. At times like these she wished Jack was hers. She looked up and he was smiling. She liked it when Jack smiled, his eyes were always so bright and when she saw him happy, she was happy.

Jack let go first, stepping backwards as he did so. She was smiling at him now; a sure sign that he'd repaired whatever damage he may or may not have accidentally wreaked. He sighed, stretching and looked upwards... The clouds were blowing thick and fast across the sky, and the air was cooling around them. Jack realised suddenly that the flames powering Will and Jack across the forest had been keeping them warm, and that these clouds had been gathering for a while. And the time too had been moving forward. He glanced at his watch with a frown. He wondered how long he'd been lying on the banks of Glass Lake before Will arrived. Jack looked back at her. "I have to go and meet Olivia soon."

Will's face fell slightly. She had been ahving a real good time racing Jack and what not. She looked back at Jack and shrugged. She opened her mouth to ask him something then shut it again deciding not too. Eventually she did ask him a different easy question that was not going to embarrass him or herself. "What time is it?" she asked still smiling, though the brightness was fading from her eyes and the radiance was almost gone.

"It's only about 5.30 pm," he told her, "but the rain's coming. Anyway, it's a good hour's walk back. You wanna come with?" He was hungry; and if he got back quickly enough, he'd be on time for dinner and Olivia. He smiled warmly at her. He'd appreciate her company. "We could walk, or..." He looked skywards. "I suppose we could race again."

Walk or race? Choice after choice after choice! If she actually had any choice at all the answer would be simple and as it so happens it was simple and plain and clear. "Walk or race?" she repeated absently. And the answer to that was staring her right in the face. "You're on!" she shot up in the air and started to soar faster and faster through the air. She was there in body but not spirit.

Jack gathered speed steadily, the wind rushing around him; through his hair and through the flames that spurred him onwards. Orchid's silhouette grew greater and greater as they zoomed faster and faster; their jets of smoke intertwining as they dodged and ducked each other. The Gardens spread out beneath them; and students below stopped, stared and pointed at the two orange rockets as they crossed the sky. Jack was laughing, but as he turned his head towards Will, the laughter soon died. Something was... wrong. Again. Hmmph. What was it with girls?! Feeling slightly annoyed, Jack sped up again, hoping to get her back in the right frame of mind for their final lap. "Come on," he willed her on silently as he flew deliberately tauntingly ahead, "pick it up."

"Come on," Jack called in a slightly exasperated tone, as he flew ahead, "pick it up." Will's eyes snapped up to meet his. Had he been alughing a second ago? Yes. Yes he had. Then why-oh right. "Sure," Will sped up and over took him again, a smile on her face from the fun of it all but it was still an absent minded smile. "You know, we should start up a rally. All people with elemental fire power racing....but within their own year, depeneding how fast they are," she tried to cover up her absent mind. But now that she said it...she actually did want to start one. "I think that would be a good idea?" she dove straight infront of Jack stopping him for a millisecond. She was now lying on her back underneath him, keeping up with him easily for the minute. "Ah well," she sighed and frowned before smiling and then roaring with laughter she shot of like a missile over the hospital wing and around the tower and was now waiting for Jack in front of the common room window.

Aw, wow, yeah, he’d like that. A chance to kick everyones’ butts a hundred times over. But he was certain everyone wouldn’t. So he smiled instead, as they raced up and around, and ended up at the Common Room window. He could see a couple of firsties sitting in there, and smirking to himself, leaned forward and gave the window a light rap. “Get out of view!” he hissed, and ducked beneath the window.

“Get out of view!” he hissed, and ducked beneath the window. Will was suddenly yanked down beside him. "Jack!" she hissed back,"That's mean!.....but fun!" Will hovered up a bit more and saw the firsties in utter confusion trying to find the source of the tapping. She bit her lip and then smiled slyly. She sneaked another peep and saw they had gone back to their firstie business. She quietly opened the window ever so slightly. "We can see you!" she said in an voice that was totally unrecognisible as hers and then shut it quickly but queitly again and ducked under before they looked up. She winked and Jack and laughed quietly.

Jack could see the first-years at the window, undisguised panic across their faces. One of the girls was tugging at the sleeve of the boy in front of her, saying something urgently. The boy, comically grim, just about killed Jack. He looked like a frigging ancient old army officer or something- Madeleine had worn an expression similar in Battle Training. Shaking in his laughter, he shook his head at Will and mouthed: "Shall we jump out and scare them?" The best part about all of this was that the firsties wouldn't dare make a complaint about either Jack or Will. Jack was captain of the rugby team, and although he never would, he could easily beat them to a pulp. And Will was a Head. You just didn't mess with a Head, even if they messed with you first!

Will couldn't stop laughing. Tears were even starting to well up in her eyes she was laughing that much. But when she saw what Jack was mouthing at her the hysterics wouldn't stop but she managed to nod at him. She held up her hand and counted down from three as well as mouthing it, "Three, two,....one!" Will soared up and her face was just and inch from the window, "Boo!" They all screamed and then Will had to laugh at what Jack did at the same time she said boo. She was laughing so hard she couldn't hear what he said afterwards.

Shooting fire at the window to scare them off may've been a little extravagant, but Jack was quite satisfied with the results. The first-years screamed; and ran. That 'tough' little kid looked as though he was about to cry. Feeling a tad guilty, Jack leaned around to push Will out of the way. "Come off, gerroff with you," he chuckled, but she was laughing so hard he doubted she had heard him. Then turning back and knocking on the window, the disgruntled first-years turned back to him. "Let them in, then," Jack could just about hear the boy say to the girl, who nodded and carefully pushed the window open. Jack shot inside, followed by Will, and as the flames disappeared, he beamed around at the first-years. "Thanks, guys," he grinned, "hope we didn't give you too much of a fright." They were definitely annoyed, but made no response.

Will still hadn't calmed down and the looks on their faces just kept her going. "Jack....that.....was.....hahaha!" Will couldn't finish never mind formulating a single sentence. A wee stout first year boy who looke like the "tough" one walked up to her. "You better go, otherwise I'm going to go get Professor Todd," "I beg your pardon?" Will stared down at him now with a glare. "You heard me clear off!" he said louder, "Are you deaf or something?!" "Look you little toerag, go away or I will make you go away," Will said in low dangerous voice. "Haha, you're just a girl, you can't hurt me. Besides you're Head of the Carers! I'm in the Warriors," he retorted smugly. Will then cracked a smile and started laughing a sad laugh before she grabbed him by the ear and took him over and put him down on the sofa. "Now you listen to me, if you try to threaten me again, I will make life hell for you here, got that?" she asked in a sweet but dangerous voice. Then before she knew his hand lashed out but she was a millisecond quicker and moved her face out of the road before he could slap her. She grabbed both his his hands and pulled him of the sofa before she turned him around and had a decent hold of both wrists behind his back. "Go away now, before I really lose my temper with you," she hissed at him.

... so much for his theory about kids being too scared to 'rebel' against Heads and rugby captains. Christ, first-years got more ballsy every year. Jack's eyes slid back and forth between the first-year Will had pinned, and the little first-year girl, whose eyes were wide, brown and anxious. Clearly, the little bugger was trying to act big in front of his girlfriend. "Oi," Jack smiled at Will, putting a hand on her shoulder. "He's only a kid. A little prick in the making, yes, but a kid. Anyway, we gave them a hell of a scare." "Bullies!" the little girl cried out, then clapped her hands to her mouth in fear. Jack did feel a tad guilty as he looked about them all. "Come on, Will," he told her, prying her away from the first-year, who had turned purple from embarrassment. "Leave it alone."
