Well thank heaven for that. They were over. The d**ned exams (how the hell many did Orchid Hill-ers do in a year anyway?) had been more of a challenge for his rugby/Olivia preoccupied brain, because every time he should have been revising... well... he'd been with one of his favourite things instead. What did that song go like? The weird one, with the lady with too-short hair and a nun's hat? "Raindrops on... argh... rugby balls... and... um... cream-coloured challenges? Wild girls that flew with perfume on their wings? These were a few of Jack's favourite things?" ... could catch on. So now... he was here. Olivia (for once) had been busy enough to prolong their daily meeting 'til the darkened Common Room this evening, so Jack, feeling a... ahem, strange need to escape the place he had failed all his exams had decided to go for a jog, which had turned into a walk, which had turned into a collapse on the bank of the Glass Lake. He hadn't felt this peaceful in a hell of a long time...

Will dragged her feet along the forest floor and gazed up at the sun. It was supposed to be sweltering today and if her elemental power of fire didn't get in her way she would probably be able to enjoy it. And now she was far far away with her head up in the clouds. Random songs whizzing around in her head. She was not looking forward to getting her exams back. Not at all. "Letting loose around the world, but the call of home is loud, still is loud," she sang out loud, letting her feet lead the way as she so often did. She was of hospital duty for once thank god! Now she had time to relax....if her brain would let her, which it wouldn't. As with any exams, she always seemed to know what and how badly she would fail and her brain at the time of exams was a chronic pessimist. Which was one of the reasons she had done a huge circuit of the school, gardens, fields, all of the froest (well most of it) and now the lake. She felt better. And now, she had some time to let some steam of and so she practised with her power of fire...on the water. Until she realized a body lying down at the opposite end of the lake. She recognised it instantly as Jack Trove's. Who wouldn't? "Hey Jack!" she smiled brightly as she walked up to him. She flopped down beside him and started drawing shapes on the rough sand. "How have you been keeping?"

It was a bit of a shock to hear Will's cheerful voice break through his dreamy mind-trek. Sitting up straight, Jack took in Will blearily, surprised to see her for the first time... ... in a long time. Maybe his eyes were having trouble adjusting in the sharp light, but there was something... different about her. Her face looked thinner than he'd last seen it- but it suited her. She looked older. And her legs seemed longer. They stretched out in the ground; their bare calves a strange contrast to the muddy ground. She didn't look as cute as he was used to her looking. She looked different- and the difference unsettled him slightly. But the voice hadn't changed. "Hey, Will," he said, relaxing after his initial shock. "I'm... alright. How're you?"

Her toes nestled into the sand perfectly. "I'm grand, thanks," she smiled when she had saw Jack's face turn up in surprise, "Long time, no see, eh?" A cloud passed over the sun making everything go a bit darker but she didn't really notice it. She had grown used to the overcast even when it was sunny. She lay back and gazed up at the sky; and happening to see shapes in the clouds too. "Wow, it's been a long time since I've done that," she giggled seeing a sheep and a spoon, she glanced at Jack who was staring at her. Her smile widened a bit more, "Sorry, I just see shapes in the clouds. I haven't done this since I was about eight years old." Her eye were bright and her hair spread out like a fan on the sand, the light breeze lifting the frilly bits of her t-shirt and she was actually wearing make up for once, light make up but make up none the less. It made a nice change and she was in a strangely good mood after her walk.

Definitely still Will. He smirked to himself. Only she would make some random comment as though he could see straight into her thoughts; and make it as though it were obvious what the hell she was actually on about. Whole other world, that Will. She was way up there, with Kira, and the other nutters of the century. "Done what?" he asked her, carefully serious; like it was a game.

"Made the clouds into certain shape like sheep or a dragon or a gate..." she spotted one that looked like a...."Cloud, how boring," She looked at Jack. Ok, she was beign herself again. But she always felt like she could be herself around Jack. It was like second nature to her. Then she started absentmindedly covering her hand with fire and putting it out again, over and over. "I'm soo glad the exams are over and now I can finally enjoy the mother of fire," she looked up at the sun.

Jack nearly burst out laughing at that one. Mother of Fire?! He'd heard the term tossed around in class far too much for it to bear any real meaning- let alone for it to sound quite right in context. Jack's own palm moved across the earth, and rose upwards; fire blowing from his fingertips in an unearthly waltz with the wind. "They used to tell me never to play with fire," he grinned, as little sparks of heat spat from the dancing pair. "I guess they can't stop me now." The flames leaped from his palm, and with a sudden crackle, sped across the surface of the Glass Lake in a rocket of sizzling, sparkling light. It exploded across its middle; casting ripples across the surface with dizzying force. "Always wanted to do that when I was a kid," he winked at Will.

Will pretended she was mildly interested when she was actually taken by it. That vas amazing! I vish I could do that... "Haha, you big child you," she pushed him playfully with her hand, on his arm, to one side. "But it vas quite spectacular," she concealed most of the awe in her voice pretty well. She had been practising her powers ever since she had found out about them but she couldn't do the most simplest of things. "Have you a race?" she eyed him competitively.

... a race...? "Uh... huh," Jack snorted slightly, eyeing up the competition. Aah... now... how could he put this delicately? Will was... well, for one thing, she was a Carer- actually, more like the Carer- Head of the godd*mn Carers, and as... respectful as that position was, it did put her in... the sort of wussy category. Next, she was a... girl. Well, no, that was unfair- Madeleine Baudelaire was living proof that girls could kick butt... but quite a few... couldn't, and the same was true of guys (Josh the Carer sprung to mind, oddly enough...). And Will... wasn't... well... a kick butt girl. And... well... she was a heck of a lot shorter than him. When it came to speed in running, oddly enough, leg length worked to the runners' advantage. "I think I'd beat you, Will," Jack smiled as gently as he could. "No offense- it's just with all the Warrior and rugby training... I'm pretty speedy." Cool. Not a single insult in there. He was getting better at this 'sensitive' thing Ellie liked to talk about.

Yeh what now? confusion spread across Will's face for a few seconds before she realized what he had thought what kind of race she was talking about. "Silly, silly Jack," she rolled her eyes playfully towards him the sprung up to her feet, "I'm not talking about a running race," she stuck her tongue out for a split second before smiling while bitting her bottom lip. Suddenly fire started creeping up her legs. Whoosh! And she was soaring through the air. "I was talking about a fire race you dope," she laughed. She whizzed around the sky before hovering above and in front of Jack slightly. "Well, how bout it?" she winked and flew about six feet high in a split second, "You up for a race?" Eyeing him competitively again with a sparkle in her eyes.

Not particularly, no. For all of the aforementioned reasons, many of which Jack felt was in his balls' better interest not to list off what had just been running through his head. Then again... He cocked his head. Should he humour her? "I might still beat you."

"I might still beat you." Will frowned. Jack was usually competitive. "And?" but she wasn't going to stop trying, "So what if you do?! It'll still be fun," She shook her hair in front of her face, fire now up to her waist. Nothing was going to crush her fiesty spirit today. "Oh come on," she shot fire at him, it stayed on him for a bit then blew away, "Not up for some fun then?" Still keeping her playful smile on she spun a circle around him and sped up high in the sky. "Not in the mood for winning?" she stared at the clouds above her and gave a sigh before pouting. "Please?"

Jack slumped backwards onto the ground lazily. "Will," he said kindly, "look... it's just... sure; I like winning. But I also like a challenge- you know?" And Will was a tease. She wasn't a challenge. Then, something in her eyes caught him out, and he felt a strange burden of guilt settle over him. "That is," he cleared his throat, sitting up straighter, "well... how fast can you go?" Had to give the kid a chance, didn't he?

A challenge?! Will was a bit offended at that. She guessed that showed in her face because he sat back up looking a bit guilty. "That is, well... how fast can you go?" A resentful yet cheeky glint sprung into her eyes and cheeky grin spread across her face and before he had time blink she was gone. Speeding through the forest, across the stream in the middle of the forest, out to the fields and back in under five seconds. She wooshed directly above his head. "Fast enough for you?" she asked folding her arms and the flames still going brightly. Well, it's not like she had had anything better to do with her spare time so she had gone off and had practised with her fire a hell of a lot. Plus it helped that her godparents ahd helped her, especially her godfather who had been a warrior and had trained her in stealth and stamina and with all that, she had gotten more speedy.

By the time Will was back above his head, Jack was on his feet; his mouth opened in a prolonged whoop. It sure did help to be light and speedy, huh? Will, little though she may be, certainly did have those moments of brilliance. "Alright, alright," he laughed, "I'm in." Playing with fire shouldn't be so easy. With the thrust of a flame-thrower (Well, that's what he was, really, a basic human flame-thrower. That same force was what kept him and Will flying.) Jack flew upwards, the flames surging across the lower half of his body. Stretching slightly, he took a bow in mid-air before Will, a winning smile on his face. "Ladies first."
