"It's fine," repeated Madeleine, for what felt like the millionth time today. But she didn't mind. The contact with him, digustingly, delighted her. Holding his hand for the first time in so long felt so... good. When it shouldn't. It was like some forbidden pleasure, her apple from Eden... And her stomach was jolting... again. "Try again," she said smoothly, waiting for him to move his hand back to the hilt.

Boundaries were made to be broken. That's all Lee could think. Smiling, he lifted the sword from the floor and moved back in position, letting himself bask in her warmth- her smooth, wonderful velvet touch... Her hair smelt of lime. How could he have forgotten...? "Here we go..." This time, he moved his sword perfectly, one smooth and simple motion. He spun around to face her, laughing, and realised with a thrill that his face was mere inches from her's... If he leant forward ever so slightly, he could've kissed her...

If Levi could see her now... As Lee lifted his sword, Madeleine inhaled the familiar scent of him... and suddenly, the weeks since she'd left him just melted away. Time had failed to pass. They were still together, and they were still Madeleine & Lee, joined... Then, Lee drew his sword in one perfect movement, and he spun round, laughing. The sudden closeness of his face to hers alarmed her, and she became aware of herself and where she was. Dropping his hand like a burning brand, she stepped back swiftly, and smiled distantly. "Well done." Then, to check on the others, she walked away. And a strong feeling of longing enveloped her.

Lee let her walk away, catching the Academic's eye as he turned around. There was something accusatory in that guy's eye... he definitely wasn't happy. Lee knew he should feel guilty about what he had just done- although, really, he hadn't done anything- but if he was honest with himself... YES YES YES YES!!! When Madeleine dumped him Lee had never thought for a moment that he would ever be able to... to touch her again- to come that close to her- to be able to breathe in that familiar scent again... He'd just gotten lucky, and he knew it. Perhaps he'd never be able to come that close to her again... maybe he knew that. He did know that. So he had to relish it. He had to pretend it was forever. Just for a bit. Silently vowing to wait behind after the session, Lee pushed all thoughts of his contact with Madeleine, and concentrated on the lesson in hand...

Everyone else seemed to be doing fine with their sword drawing, thank goodness. Madeleine jumped up on the crate again, keeping her gaze steadily away from Lee. The longing that was now filling up every vein in her body was starting to scare her, because she shouldn't be feeling like that. She couldn't be feeling like that. Especially not here. "Alright, so does anyone know anything about swords, or fencing at all?" she asked, glancing around the group. What was with that Academic... er.... Nathaniel? He looked like he had a serious bee up his arse...

With a last resentful look at Lee, the Academic thrust his hand boldly into the air. Lee pursed his lips, and caught Jude's eye, who winked back. Lee suddenly felt himself smile. Jude was up to something... but... what...?

"Yeah?" Trust the Academic. He spewed out a lot of things which he had obviously gleaned from some textbook or other. It was all very technical, with a lot of long, long words. Several of the others started to tune out. Madeleine held up her hand, smiling at Nathaniel. "That's great, Nathaniel, but honestly, you don't need to know all that." He looked slightly affronted. "There is one elemental fact here, guys. It's incredibly easy, but it's amazing how many people forget it." She held up her sword, letting the light bounce off it. It threw a shimmering light onto her face as she spoke to the group. "Do not clash the sword. That will not get anywhere, trust me, especially if your opponent is stronger than you. Repeat that, please."

There was a bit of half-hearted mumbling, and as it died out, Lee felt a rush of pride. There- something he'd known. Gooooo books.

"Blades are smooth for a reason," she continued. "They slide. Remember, you're either trying to disarm your opponent or get past them and stab them. See if you can do that, right?"

ooc: Oh my word, you thief!
"Pair up?" "Well done," Nathaniel said, coming up behind Lee with a sarcastic smirk. "Very well done. And of course you'll get beaten." "Wouldn't expect anything less of her," Lee shrugged, nodding at Madeleine. "Oh no," Nathaniel said pompously. "You're sparring with me." Lee frowned at him. "No... I'm with Madeleine..." Hurry up, Jude... "Good God!" Jude jumped up, gazing in horror at Nathaniel. Not a moment too soon... "What?!" Nathaniel jumped, rounding on him wildly. "There are women around here, mate," Jude said quietly, looking a little stricken. "They don't need to see... well..." "What?" Nathaniel demanded coldly. Jude nodded, and coughed. "It's just... your fly's undone..." Lee burst out laughing along with the rest of the volunteers. Nathaniel flushed a fiery red colour, looking determinedly away from Madeleine as he turned away to try and fix his zip. However, there was a sudden foreboding crack, and Nathaniel yelled in horror as the zip fell clean away. "Metal powers," Jude muttered to Lee, grinning. "You gotta love it..." Lee grinned. He was starting to really like this guy...

((ooc: Lee and I have something in common - that is literally all we know about swords!))
Struggling not to laugh herself, Madeleine smiled at Jude. "Nice demonstration of metal powers there, Jude, but there's really no need for that, okay?" Jude just chuckled. "Right, let's actually do something," she said, jumping down from the crate. "Back into your pairs, please." She approached Lee somewhat nervously. "Ever done this before?"

"Once with Kira," he shrugged, "and I think she was taking it easy on me. Hard to tell though- we were using branches." Wow, that sounded professional. But it was upbeat. It was jokey- sort of- and she might find it funny. It'd be great to make her laugh. He hadn't heard her laugh in a while... "Don't give me too tough a time, yeah?" Okay, that part was serious.

Madeleine smiled carelessly. To her surprise, as the day wore on, it was becoming more and more like it was before, a reflex - there were times now when she had to literally remember to smile. "I won't," she promised, before raising her voice. "I'm sorry about throwing you all into the deep end, but you're all capable of it. I want you to try and disarm your partner - do not try to stab them, not yet. Accidents do happen, but please be reasonably careful, alright? Go." Drawing her sword, she smiled at Lee. "You try to disarm me - I won't make any sudden movements, I promise." Another smile. Wow.

Lee lunged forward half-heartedly, then stopped, and sighed. "I can't." No kidding. He didn't really know how.

"You can," corrected Madeleine. "You don't really need to know fancy tricks or whatever. Just go with it - use your instincts, and then I'll tell you what you're doing wrong." He looked nervous, and she felt a pang of... of what? Guilt, again?
