Macy lay on her bed, reading. The dorm was empty, and soft rain was hitting the window on the other side of the room. As she turned the page, she heard Gypsy breathing, on the shelf above her head. "Gypsy, come down here." she whispered softly, and a long snake slithered down the wall and landed on her bed. "Snake? That's different." She said, scratching her companion's scaly head. Silence come over the room, except for the rain, and Macy fell deeper into her book. She jolted awake, finding that she must have drifted asleep. She looked over at the door, fixing her hair. Letting out a breath, she saw that it was her fellow roommate, Kira. "Hey." She said, sitting up and closing over her book.

Catch-22 was gone now, returned to its rightful owner, and Kira was bored and grumpy. She still hadn't gotten a proper chance to talk to Lee- and it was making her really mad. The guy was like an eel! She supposed it'd come in useful when they were kids... but now it was just annoying! Deciding to head to bed early for a headache, Kira tramped upstairs and found Macy there. "Hey," Macy said, sitting up. "Hi," Kira nodded. She hadn't spoken to Macy in ages. "What's your book about?" If it was good, she'd kidnap it later...

"Just some light reading, Edgar Allen Poe." She laughed. "There's that whole library downstairs, and I choose to stay up here, and read the same stories that I've been reading since I was a little girl. I guess some stories are for life." She sighed. "How are you?" She asked, setting the book down of the table beside her. "I haven't talked to you in ages, it seems."

"I know," said Kira regretfully, settling herself down on her bed, which was beside Macy's. "I'm... alright, I suppose. How are you?" What she'd really wanted to ask was "How is Steve?" but something held her back. It seemed a bit forward, and far too nosy.

"I'm alright, I'm just tired. In fact, I might take out my contacts, they're annoying me." She said, walking into their small bathroom. She came out, and went back over ot her bed, opened the drawer and took out a pair of pink-rimmed glasses. She never wore her glasses during the day, just before she went to sleep. "So, um, how's life?" She asked. She felt slightly strange, not being able to find conversation. It seemed their lives had gotten in the way of everything, not being able to just sit down and relax.

"It's... alright," mused Kira, wishing she had something more to say. She leant across the gap between their beds and picked up Macy's book. She examined it closely for a couple of seconds, before realizing she should return Macy's question. "And how's your life?" Kira asked, then unable to resist, she added innocently. "How's Steve?" Temptation... it never failed to capture her heart.

"It's fine, and um, Steve? He's good too. He's just being his normal, crazy self. But there's now this girl called Anke, and I don't know where she stands. She's annoying. I don't know." She said, sighing again. "Why?" She asked. It did sound slightly rude, asking why someone wants to know about your friend. Maybe Macy talked about him too much, and Kira was asking her before she went off into a rant about him. Why was she talking about him so much? She wasn't inlove with him. He was just an interesting person.

Kira blushed unwillingly. "I... I just wanted to know if anything was happening... between you two." She shouldn't have asked that, and she inwardly scolded herself for it. But her curiosity had most definitely been aroused. Who was this Anke? And why did Kira not like the sound of her? "Um... what's your book about?" She held it aloft.

Macy raised her eyebrows, and then looked over at the book. "It isn't one, long story, it's a collection of short ones. It's about madness and paranoia, and they're really good. You can borrow it, if you want. I've read it so many times, I'm getting slightly sick of it. Read 'The Pit and the Pendulum', it's my favourite." She smiled. "So, um, how are the Spies these days?" She asked, crossing her legs on her bed. The rain was getting heavier, and the sun had set fully. Macy reached over and switched on the light be her bed, leaving icy finger-prints on the switch.

Spy-ish? "Alright," Kira said off-handedly, turning the book in her hands and tracing the cover's pictures. "And the Academics...?" There wasn't exactly much she could say- was there? Seemed a strange question. Sometimes, Kira felt like she didn't do nearly enough for her group. At other times, she felt like she'd absolutely worked her fingers to the bone trying to keep them going- and that they weren't even grateful! But mostly, they'd just become a way of life. Her responsibilities weren't a chore if she enjoyed them- right?

Macy laughed, "They're studying, as usual." She sighed, and looked out the window, at the rain. "It looks like it's getting heavier." She said, quietly. She actually had an urge to go outside, as she loved the rain. She loved freezing the droplets on her skin, and making ice sculptures in the puddles. She snapped out of her day dreams and looked over at Kira, trying to fond a conversation. "Didn't you sign up for the SCR? I did too, I don't know why, I just wanted to. I want to help fight against those people." She said, trying to sound polite. "Do you know when the first meeting is?"

"It's yet to be arranged," replied Kira smoothly, "but I think it's going to be next weekend..."

Macy put her hand through her blond hair, thinking. Gypsy had curled back onto her shelf, and had fallen asleep. "So.." She said, looking around the room, over at Madeleine and Will's beds, which were looking slightly untidy, but Macy had ignored that fact, that the whole room didn't looked the neatest that it could have been. "Are you still seeing whatshisname that Parmida almost killed at the camping trip, then?" She asked, kicking of her socks, revealing multi-coloured toenails. She liked having bare feet when sitting on her bed.

"Deron," Kira said helpfully, smiling to herself. "And yes. Yes, I am." She saw Macy's rainbow toenails, and it brought a strange thought to her, one she hadn't considered for a long time. Say... if you were working around the theory that human beings evolved from apes... then technically, their feet had developed from hands. Wasn't that a strange thought- imagining that your toes used to be fingers, and perhaps your big toe was the thumb. If you stared just long enough, then eventually, you could turn the whole process backwards in your mind's eye. It was sort of nifty. Back to the point... "He was one of the main people involving in organising the whole thing," Kira told Macy, with just a trace of pride.

Why is she staring at my toes? "Oh, wow, that's cool." She said, and felt the hint of pride from her friend. "He sounds nice, though, but I wouldn't sneak up on the campsite anymore, if Parmida's there." She said, laughing. "So, um, how're your classes?" Macy knew it was a strange question, but she liked to ask people. She was the head of the Academics.
