Macy lent over a book, deep in thought. The library was emptying, as it was almost 10 o'clock, but Macy wanted to get some reading for Elemental control done. She didn't actually need to read it, but she wanted to. As she turned a page, she heard someone come near her. She thought it may be the librarian, coming to tell her to get out, but it wasn't.
"Holden...hi." She said to the boy who had sat down on the seat across from her. He didn't seem like his normal self, he seemed...angry. It was a shame that he didn't have mood hair like Steve...Steve...
Her thoughts seemed to drift towards her other friend, but she was brought down to earth by the look in his eye.
"Hi, Macy. Can I just ask something?"
She nodded, slightly confused.
"Why are you with Bonkers from Yonkers?"
"Don't call him that." She knew that the names that others called him would effect him deeply, even though he didn't want to show it.
"I'll call that freak whatever I want to call him." His eyes were slits, the hated flooding over Macy.
"What's wrong, why don't you like him? We're just friends."
"Look, Macy, cast your mind back to the dance. Okay, I had asked you, and we were having fun. Until we were attacked, and you were taken. Do you know how I felt? I thought I was the cause of it. And when you came home, I was so happy you were alive. But you were different. And you told me that we couldn't be together, then. But we would be sometime. And then, you're best friends with that freak? That is so messed up...he is so messed up."
Macy could feel the anger inside her stomach bubble up, and she looked him into his eyes. "Do not say that about him. I don't know how it happened, but it did. Kay, so you can't go round and be all like 'oh, what's she doing, going out with the weirdo?'"
"You're going out with him?"
"I didn't say that." She said, unaware that she had.
"Yes, you did. How can you go out with him?"
"Okay, I am not going out with him, I was just saying that as if it was from your eyes." She said, starting to get defensive.
He gave her a look as cold a death, got up and stormed away.
She looked at the door swinging behind him, in complete shock. Her lip quivered, and she slammed her head aganist the open book.
"No no no no no" She kept saying, feeling tears fill her eyes, but she wouldn't touch them.
"Alright, the library's closing for the night, everybody out." A loud voice came across the room, and Macy got up, put her book into her bag, and walked out, numb.
