Okay. You have talked to Madeleine about it. You said you were going to go do it. Now, go do it.
No. I can't. You don't need to know, it's fine how it is at the moment.
No, Macy, go up to him. Ask him. You are going to do. If you chicken out you will be the laughing stock of your own consciousness. And you don't want that.
No, she really didn't want that. Macy found herself, standing at the entrance of the Library, after coming down from her dorm, to find Steve.
It was easter, and they had a week and a few days without any classes, so it was the perfect time to talk to Steve. She glanced down at her watch's frosted face. He should be in the Hospital Wing, getting his morning round of medication, so if she hurried up, then she could catch him.
She was feeling very nervous, and wanted to change into a cheetah to run faster, but she tried her hardest to steady her breathing. She wished that she had brought Gypsy, but her companion had wanted to go out to the forest, to stretch her legs for a while.
Macy came up to the Hospital Wing, took a deep breath, and entered. She went in, expecting him to be there, but he wasn't. She went over to a Carer who was on duty at the time.
"Um, has, eh, has Steve Ritzski been here yet?" She asked, awkwardly. She recognised the Carer to be in her year, Danielle Carter. Danielle looked at Macy, up and down, almost inspecting her.
"No, he was here about fifteen minutes ago." She said, rolling her eyes, while she picked up a glass of stale water from a bedside table beside a boy who was still asleep, his arm in a cast.
"Oh, em, thank you." Macy said, feeling that she should just leave. She turned around and walked back out, into the Main Corridor, and stood in almost shock. She started to walk back, almost lost in the familiar corridors of her home.
She stopped by a window, to try and think where he could be. She sat down on one of the window seats, leaning her head against the glass, overlooking the gardens. Her breath froze the glass, but she melted it with her fingers. She sat there for some time, she wasn't too sure for how long. She was slightly angry at herself, for not finding him, as she needed to. She heard people walk passed her, but they didn't seem to snap out of her day dream. Well, that was, until..
"Macy? Hey, Macy!"
She looked up, seeing a very familiar face, and hair, appearing around the corner.
"Hey, where were you?" She asked, finding that her voice was cracked.
"Huh? I was up in the Common Room, listening to Pink Floyd, and doing more on a picture. Here." He said, giving her a rolled up piece of paper that she hadn't noticed. She took it, unrolled it, and found a picture of herself, on Valentine's night, when they were on the hill in the forest, exploding things near couples trying to enjoy the night. It was of her, at night time, hugging her knees, and looking to the left.
"Wow, it's so..nice." She said, speechless. She smiled, and put it in her pocket, but then came back to the task at hand.
"How are you, today, then?" He asked, interrupting her train of thought.
"Hmm? Oh, I'm fine, yeah, I'm fine. Now, um.." She said, straightening her back, so the two inches between them was obvious. She gave him a stern, serious look, hoping that he would take her question seriously, and make this as little as embarrassing as possible for her.
"Steve? Where are we?" She asked, decided to not beat the bush.
"What? Um, we're in the Corridor, why, where did you think we were?" He asked, trying to suppress a laugh.
"No! No, I didn't mean that." She said, getting frustrated, having to first of all, talk about her feelings, and second, trying doing it with Steve Ritzski.
She started to walk down the corridor, knowing the eventually they were going to come to the Battle Training room. He followed her, keeping her pace, his hair going a mix between green and blue.
"What? What did you mean then?" He finally asked, when Macy had stopped walking in a pace that was close to running. She collapsed on the wall, holding her head in her hands.
"I don't know, I don't know, I just wanted to know, like, oh, I don't know. Where... where we are. I mean, me and you. In terms of-"
"I know what you mean. And, um, well, I'm where ever you are." He said, his face looking concerned, serious. "Well, where you want to be."
Macy stared at him, into his grey eyes. She was thinking that she was about to cry at him.
"Augh, Steve, like, seriously, this isn't meant to happen like this!" She said, sliding down the wall, to a heap on the floor. Steve crouched down to her, his hair a very deep shade of blue-black.
"What did I say? What was wrong abut about what I said?"
"No, nothing was wrong about it, it's just, like, you're so...good to me. But, no, there was nothing wrong in what you said. It was perfect. That's the problem." She said, looking down the corridor, away from Steve.
"Why is that a problem? Did you want me to be...imperfect?" He said, trying to catch her eyes again.
"No, it's so confusing. You seem to be so, imperfect, and that's what I like. And when you aren't trying, you're still so sweet." She turned around to look at him, but she ended up jump-hugging him. He fell back slightly, but laughed, as he sat up, still holding her.
"Just, promise me one thing." She said, getting up, but still sitting on the floor. He nodded, and didn't say anything.
"Just, don't leave me. I don't want to be alone." She said, looking at her hands. She felt Steve thinking for a moment, not saying anything.
"Okay." He finally said. "Yeah, okay. I won't leave you."
