Name: Vanessa Winchester [no middle name]
Age: 17
Physical Description: Vanessa is nearly too skinny to be considered pretty. She just about makes the cut, probably because of the muscle tone worked into her arms and legs from years of training. She seems dainty enough from the distance, but with one blow, could knock a grown man flying. Her face is angular, and her eyes are bright, almost painfully blue. Her skin is pale and a little freckled around the nose- an almost cute detail she does her best to conceal. She has incredible hair- long, thick and dark, falling in natural curling waves around her head. She wears it long, just past her shoulders, though she often ties it up for ease.
She stands at roughly 5’8”.
Clothing Description: When in battle, the Forces wear a uniform. When out casually, she sometimes likes to wear make-up; usually something dark and a little dramatic. She prefers trousers to skirts, plain to pattern, and most commonly is seen wandering around in a basic T-shirt and pair of slacks. She dresses for comfort and ease- not for fashion. Then again, nobody really follows trends from the camp.
Personality: If God bottled a storm and shaped it into a person, the result would probably be Vanessa. Crass, moody and changeable as the weather, Vanessa is not an easy person to get along with. She’s frequently tense, and terse; her tongue is sharp and to the point. She doesn’t try to soften any blow it makes- her brutal honesty is probably at once her most redeeming and most d**ning quality. Vanessa feels things deeply; hurt, hatred and love, too, though she’s not always openly affectionate. However, to those she does harbour some feeling for, she is fiercely protective and fiercely loyal.
Her honesty is a result of her absolute confidence in herself, and everything she does, says and thinks. Unfortunately, her faith in her own ability usually leads to arrogance in areas where it is little deserved. As a result, disappointment dominates her life- and a tendency to blame others when she cannot bare to blame herself.
Her passionate nature fuels her art. She is a painter; and admires beautiful things, though what she considers beautiful is different from the more… classical view. If Vanessa had to pick her favourite sense though, it would probably be the sense of touch. She loves the feeling of skin on skin; the burn of ice; the soft fur of her dog’s coat; the wet, clinging moisture of fog and the cool metallic edge of a gun.
History: Vanessa started life in a lower middle-class suburban area in the South of England. Her mum stayed at home to look after her and her five sisters. There weren’t supposed to be five children, though. Only Vanessa and her elder sister were planned. Once there were two sisters, her mother had felt that was quite enough, thanks. However, a little accident credited to one glass too many of sherry at the neighbour’s New Year’s party had resulted in a set of triplets. Their parents were thrilled with their little ‘accidental’ sisters, and doted on them to a ridiculous degree- something that Vanessa and Francesca (4 years her senior) thought grossly unfair.
On three separate occasions- one for each triplet- Francesca and Vanessa tried to kill their sisters. The first time, they tried to smother Elsie under a duvet. The second time, they dunked Emily in a bath. The third time, Enid ‘fell’ out of her cot. Then, Francesca discovered that having three baby sisters won her friends at school, and all murder plots were called to an abrupt end. This led to a divide between the four sisters and Vanessa. She came to live a little like an outsider; a black sheep in the middle of the family.
Still, she did alright. Alright, so she was a little rude. A little wild. All the parents in the neighbourhood knew she was the mastermind behind every prank pulled. She was considered to be a ‘bad influence’ on the other children, and most- excepting a few overtly curious boys- avoided her, favouring the calmer Francesca and the three bouncing baby brats. Her parents encouraged their daughter as best they could to take full advantage of her looks. Any fool could see she was pretty- almost as pretty as the triplets- and they thought this would be a… er… healthier focus for their daughter rather than these unruly boys.
Her parents never seemed quite able to admit to themselves the only reason these ‘unruly boys’ were so unruly was because of their dainty, darling, ‘misled’ little daughter.
Vanessa grew more and more estranged from her family. She argued a lot. She questioned things not meant to be questioned, and swore a little too often for her parents’ liking. Agnus Winchester sobbed. Gerald Winchester took off his belt and Vanessa took her punishment well. It never really made a difference. The punishment just made her madder- pushed her further.
She met… a lot of people. A lot of things happened. Things Vanessa never repeated. Nothing ever scared her. But sometimes, things made her sad. She could never admit it. Francesca was wrapped up in the world of boys, and the triplets lost to the many phases of Digimon, Bratz and cult Disney Channel T.V. Vanessa didn’t really have anyone to talk to, but mostly, she didn’t mind. Not to mention school was pointless. She never tried.
All through her life, Vanessa had one goal in mind.
The Forces.
Her parents might’ve tried to stop her- had it not mean for one, well, somewhat surprising factor.
Francesca joined, too. Joined before Vanessa could get out. Left when Vanessa was 12 years old and left her with three wailing 9 year old sisters. Vanessa never knew why. Neither did her parents. For a while, the house was silent. Soon, it came to be accepted that joining the Forces was what all normal teenagers did. It was just a phase, and Francesca would grow out of it when she hit about 20 odd and come home.
Reassured by this knowledge, the parents happily let Vanessa go.
They never saw either daughter again.
Gifts: Storm powers; this means an ability to cause storms, and to harness the elements of a storm in combat or otherwise. Telekenisis. X-Ray Vision.
Pets: Vanessa taking care of something small and furry is not… exactly… a good idea.
Other: Vanessa is bisexual. For some reason, this never surprises people.
Group: Member of the Forces
