Matt stood on the edge of the roof. He wore his usual hooded cloak and shirt and jeans. He however wasn't wearing his exo-suit. Behind him sat a table. On this table was a lot of electrical wires and metal junk. Beside these useless pieces of rubbish sat a vest of shining metal with wires and little holes on it. A second table stood half a meter away. This one had a single computer monitor that was connected by wires to the suit. The screen was full of tiny charts and numbers that would change every two seconds or so.
Matt stood there waiting. His experiment would be complete and soon his exo-suit would fit anyone no matter what size. A small red box appeared in the centre of the screen and started flashing. Matt turned as though he knew the box was there and put his hand out. The box grew to fit the whole screen. On it was written 5 words; 'I know about your suit.' the hooded figure walked quickly to the monitor and placed the palm of his hand to it. Everything blanked out and a computer desktop was shown. Then small black skull and crossbones appeared and a long blank bar at the bottom of the screen started to fill up.
A second red box appeared. 4 more words. 'I have your blueprints.' the bar at the bottom filled up and the red box disappeared. Matt removed his hand and sighed. Someone had hacked into his exo-suit for a few minutes. Any longer and the culprit could have had something Matt didn't want to publicise. Thankfully the virus had loaded fast enough to stop the invader before they could turn their computer off.
The monitor flashed white and a small shield appeared in the bottom right hand corner. Then the charts appeared and everything resumed as normal. Matt turned and walked to the edge of the roof and sat down. He sat with his legs crossed in a yoga position and he closed his eyes. The sky was black and the night was warm.
A coat now lay on the floor a few feet away and Matt showed his face fully for the first time in weeks. Then he blanked out, in a single moment of calmness that lasted for who knows how long. His work was protected by an impenetrable network shield that only allowed the exo-suit to communicate with itself and no other electrical appliance unless directly connected to the chunk of modified metal. That was all that mattered to Matt at this time.
