Isolde walked up the long path towards the huge building. It was massive. Spectacular. It was like a castle out of a fairytale that she had once read.
She stood stock still just staring at it through her electric blue eyes. It was one of the most beautiful sites she had ever set eyes on. But she still had her favourite.
It was a really old building, she could tell that much by looking at it from the outside, but she bet it would be different on the inside.
She trundled on, hoping she would fit in. She dragged her suitcase and bag up the rest of the way.
"I wish Satine and Aries were here to see this. They would love it, especially Satine considering her obsession with old buildings,"
Isolde said to herself. She walked gracefully through the big oak front doors and into a very bright reception.
"Hello?" she called.
"Over here!" a muffeled voice sounded to her left and she looked over to see a hatch and a woman bending down to pick something of the floor.
"Hi, I'm a new student-" she began.
"Say no more, my, my, we seem to get a new one every minute of the day," the receptionist spoke to herself more than to the girl standing on the other side of the hatch, "Name?"
"Sorry ma'am, my name is Isolde, Isolde Moore,"
"Irish?"
"Yes, ma'am." Isolde answered back politely.
"Moore, Moore, Moore, Moore Moore....ah yes! here we are. Isolde Moore, you're in dorm 19 and you have one other person in their with you. Here is your timetable and everything else you'll need,"
"Thank you ma'am," Isolde bowed her head as she took the sheets from the receptionist.
"Don't worry dear, you should fit in no problem," the receptionist gave her a warm, reasuring smile.
"I hope so," Isolde gave her an awkward grin back, "Thank you again,"
"Not a problem,"
Isolde was about to move of when she realised she had know idead of where she was heading of too.
"Erm," she began again.
"Mark? MARK?!"
A boy in the office looked around at the receptionist.
"Yes, Miss Donaghan?" he asked.
"Would you please show this girl to the dorms please?" the receptionist gave him a hard stare.
"Eh, sure, no problem," he smiled at Isolde as he came out through a side door, "New?"
"Am I that obvious?" Isolde asked slightly embarrassed.
"No. Ok yes, but the fact that Miss Donaghan asked me to show you to the dorms and your suitcase and bag and not to mention the sheets in your hand with your timetable on it," Mark remarked.
"Oh," Isolde felt her cheeks burn.
"Ah, don't worry about it. I'm glad to help," he smiled down at her.
"Thank you sir." Isolde thanked him this time as they walked up what she assumed to be the main staircase.
"To go to the common room or dorms you turn left at the top of these stairs and get to your classe you go to your right and then the canteen and reception is down the stairs again,"
"Ok, I'll try to remember that," Isolde stored the information somewhere in her head.
"The hospital wing is to the right too and up two more flights of stairs. Madam Gornray is the head of it and runs it. Then Will Wright is the next one in charge, she's the Head of the Carers," Mark continued on.
"Head of the what?" Isolde stared up at him blankly.
"Right, basically this school has four groups, right?"
"Ok.."
"These groups protect the school in their own ways. The groups are, Academics, Warriors, Spies and Carers. And for each group there's a head," Mark explained.
Isolde nodded but didn't talk so Mark could continue explaining as they walked.
"The heads names are. Macy Deltine, who is Head of the Academics. Kira Norris, who is Head of the Spies. Madeleine Baudelaire, who is Head of the Warriors and Will Wright, who is Head of the Carers,"
"Why does the school need the groups?" Isolde asked.
"The war,"
"War?"
"Yes, this school is at war with the headmaster's brother, Marius Hoodham. The headmaster's name is Major Hoodham." Mark held a door open for her.
"Ok, but why is it at war?"
"I'll explain that some other time. It's a long complicated story," Mark cut short.
They continued to talk about the school for some time before moving onto things about themselves.
"So where are you from?" Isolde asked Mark.
"I'm from Greenland," Mark answered, "So what made you come here or how did you find out about this place?"
"Well, I discovered I had powers and I had been practising them on my own because my sisters won't believe they have them and the coven I had joined, the people in it were nothing but wanna be's. So, I decided to see if there was an organisation or schools that dealt with people who wanted to control and learn about their powers and this place came up loud and clear on the web,"
Mark stared at her, "You joined a coven?"
"Yes, why?"
"No reason," Mark answered quickly, "What powers do you possess?"
"Air and I'm a plastic bender, I don't know if I have any more than that though,"
"Plastic bender?"
"Yes, I can melt and control the shape, size and volume of plastic," she explained briefly.
"Cool,"
"What powers do you have?" Isolde asked back.
"I have water, shapeshifting and I'm a conjurer,"
"That's pretty cool,"
"What group are you in?" Mark asked suddenly.
"What? How am I meant to know what group I'm in?" Isolde cried out.
"It's on your sheet, see? You're in the...Warriors,"
"Is that good?"
"Yes, that's very good. You're in good hands and Madeleine is a very, very, very skilled fighter and she knows what to do and how to do it. But watch out, she can be very strict,"
"Got it. What group are you in then?" Isolde returned the question.
"Me? I'm in the Spies," he said proudly.
"Who's the head of them again?"
"Kira Norris," he replied.
They finally reached a door that had Common Room engraved into a piece of wood.
"Well here we are, the Common room. Just go through there and you will see two doors, on will ahve Girl's Dorms on it and the other will have Boy's dorms on it, see you around," Mark turned and left her outside the door alone.
"Bye, thank you for your help," Isolde called after him.
After taking a deep breath in and out she turne the handle and walked into the common room. As she walked across it, her head down she felt heads and eyes bore into her. She walked quickly but steadily across to the two doors Mark had mentioned and took the one on the left that led to the girl's dorms. Now all she had to do was find her room. Up along the corridor and around the right bend and she found room 19. She knocked on the door but nobody answered.
"Hopefully nobody was in," wishful thinking. As soon as she opened the door and crossed the threshold she was met by a towering girl with black hair in pigtails.
"Hi, I'm Abby and you must be my new roomie," the girl brought her into a tight hug and grabbed her suitcase and dragged over to the bed opposite hers, "We are gonna have so much fun together!"
Great, looking forward to it....not! Isolde thought.
