((I've changed my mind again. This is set the Saturday after Tamika's birthday, which would be the 8th of November.))
"...So then when I go back home, I start straight away."
Tamika nodded and smiled politely. For the last fifteen minutes she had been bored with ins and outs of Twitch's new job - a trainee custom air brush artist. Normally this would have seemed awesome to her, and she would have been stoked with him being her fiancee, but all he had done since he got the polite questions - 'how have you been?' 'how's school?' 'would you like a cigarette?' - out of the way was talk about himself. Anymore about his apparently awesome life and his head wouldn't fit into the village hotel.
"What do you think you'll do when you leave school?"
My God, a question not regarding him...
"Because I..."
There we go.
Tamika waited for this little tirade to end before letting go of his hand and sitting on the edge of the fountain. "I think I might train as a teacher, then come back to teach at Orchid Hill. Or I might stay with Will and work in the hospital wing."
Twitch made a disgusted face at her answer, "Why would you want to come back to your school and spend the rest of your life here?"
"I love it here," Tamika replied simply. She braced herself for the retell of school stories from Twitch and a few seconds later it started.
"When I was in school..."
With a subtle eye roll, she sighed and crossed her legs indian style on the fountain. It surprised her a bit that she hadn't caught in August that Twitch was shallow as a puddle. His phone going off made her jump a little as she stared at some ghost children playing hop scotch.
"Excuse me... Ja?"
Tamika didn't pay attention to the conversation. Twitch didn't seem to know that Tamika was fluent in german and so opted for that language rather than french. Not wanting to be rude, Tamika watched the children again rather than eavesdrop. Something towards the end of the conversation did catch her attention though.
"Ich liebe dich auch, mein Stern. Auf weiderhoren."
"Who was that?"
"Hmm?" Twitch looked lazily up from his phone, "Oh. My, uh, mum."
"You call your mother 'my star'?"
"Um... Yes?"
Tamika, with surprisingly fast movements at that particular moment, grabbed Twitch's phone and opened his text message inbox. One by one she read texts about what he and his wh*re were doing, did, and planning to do. It seemed that she was pregnant and Twitch had proposed to her too recently.
"Why, Jerome?" Tamika asked sadly, wiping a tear from her eye. She flipped his phone shut but didn't give it back to him. He stared awkwardly at his feet, his face had paled and he had a fading look of horror.
"I needed to be with someone, in that way. I couldn't rightly ask you to come to Switzerland."
Tamika slowly got up and stared at her hand for a moment before looking up at Twitch, her face now had light streaks of black and purple running down it.
"You could at least have broken up with me first."
She didn't say anything else as she dropped his phone into the fountain and picked up her bag. Without another look at him, she crossed the square to the coffee shop and went to the counter.
"Green tea, please," she asked quietly, placing a couple of coins on the counter. The girl manning the register gave Tamika concerned look, but didn't say anything. With a smile, she slide the mug of tea across the counter. "Thanks."
Tamika lifted the mug and turned to look for a spare table. There was one right in the back corner, and it was the one with a book shelf beside, which was perfectly suiting. She walked over and set down her stuff before flopping down. She glanced back out to the square, but Twitch wasn't there. This gave her some comfort as she finally let the tears flow a little faster, but still as silently.
