"So, the lie detector thing. Does that not get a bit awkward if peoply lie and you know but can't catch them out?" It was something Nadia had thought about a lot when she had first gotten her power. "At first it bothered me a lot when people lied to me and I couldn't work out what the truth was. Now I've come to accept that lying seems to be an essential part of human nature and that to get upset about it will only cause unwanted problems... If people lie to me now, unless it's something really important, I won't challenge them. I don't want people to feel uncomfortable around me. It does mean I have a few trust issues, but I don't let it bother me too much. I figure that if I care about the person lying enough, there's a reason - like maybe they're trying to protect me - for lying in the first place. I don't like to put pressure on people to always be truthful around me. It's not real for people not to be lying. I can understand that." Nadia paused briefly to look at the road ahead. She could just about see Orchid in the distance. She had decided for some unknown reason not to take her car down. She was beginning to regret that now. "So, uh, how do your powers work exactly?"

Tamika shrugged as a sort of response to Nadia's question, "Nothing as cool as yours. I can see and communicate with dead people because of being psychic, if I'm feeling nice I can help them crossover too. And the Shining... Well, I can communicate with other people who have the Shining through mind as well as conversing normally with someone else, I get vision's of tragic events in a building in either nightmare's or just random visions, and then sometimes I just... Know things..."

"Wow..." Nadia was a bit speechless. Tamika's powers way outclassed her own. She could talk to dead people... wow. It kinda made Nadia feel a bit insignificant. Tamika's gifts just seemed so important. Wow. "No... your powers... wow... much cooler... wow." Nadia really just oculdn't get the words out. "You talk to dead people...dead people... no one does that... wow..."

Tamika had an amused smile on her face, no one usually had this reaction to her being psychic, most didn't actually care about that one. "So, um, what would your reaction be if I told you that there's a little girl skipping a couple of metre's ahead of us?" She braced for the reaction, not sure if Nadia was going to freak out or something.

A little girl? Nadia was a little bit awed by Tamika. She was so cool. But still, it must be hard to have to deal with the dead... "Is it hard... having to deal with dead people...? I can't imagine it's easy, I would find it impossible to cope with." Nadia felt quite solemn saying this. "How did you discover that one?"

"It's not too bad a lot of the time. There's been this one male spirit who's been bugging me about a key from midnight to 3am every night since I came back to school." Tamika frowned, he was such a pain, and she wanted to help him, she just didn't know how to. "I discovered it last Hallowe'en. Well kind of. See last Hallowe'en, shortly after the battle, I started seeing the ghost of my friends boyfriend, and then he possessed me, which was odd. It was after that I starting realising how I would always think that graveyards and parks and stuff like that were packed when I was a kid, but everyone would tell me there was only a few people there..."

"Wow..." THey were drawing ever-closer to the school. Nadia still had questions though... "What about your other power... the, uh... Shining? What is it exactly?" Nadia really had no idea about this one.

Ah the Shining, one of the most unrare and boring powers of them all. Tamika was going to go into how everyone thought it was super rare, and how it wasn't and everyone shined, but she didn't want to get into it... "As I said, I see and know things, but only if they are tragic, and I can communicate with anyone else who has it via mind but no one else can tell as I carry on as normal. Unfortunately, the only other person I know of that has it is my mum..."

"That... um ... I'm sure you love being connected to your mum..." Nadia hoped the sarcasm shined through... Being connected to her mum... her worst nightmare... She'd left her mum behind now though... Nadia could only hope for good. She'd dreamed since she left home that she was adopted and they weren't her real family... no such luck apparently. The thought of being connected with either of her parents made Nadia shudder... the horror.

Tamika gave a loud, involuntery laugh then blush. "Not a chance. We got along better when I thought she was my aunt, as soon as I found out she was my mother I just started... Well, hating her, as strong a word as it may be. How about your parents? Have you heard from them much since you came here?"

"The only time I've heard from my parents in the past three or four years is when they've asked me for money. We don't care for eachothers company to put it mildly." Nadia hated thinking about her parents. It was getting easier though, now that she was at Orchid. The shadow seemed to be fading away... It made her smile to think of that.

"Oh..." Tamika said quietly, which roughly translated as 'Oh bugger, way to put my foot in it...'. She decided it was time for a swift change of subject, subtle or not. "So where in the world are you from anyways?"

"I was raised in Callander, near Stirling, sorta in between Glasgow and Edinburgh. I've been living in Cambridge for the past few years though. What about you, where are you from?" Nadia was actually curious to know this. She hadn't heard the name Tamika before so it was quite possible she was foreign.

"From Russia with love. Born and raised in Yekaterinburg, then I moved to Moscow when I was ten. It would probably be easier to tell you that I come from a foreign ice bucket though," Tamika laughed.
(Sorry my replies are getting short, I have a cold, and that always makes quality/quantity die horribly...)

((I wouldn't worry... mine are equally short or shorter))
Russia... cool. Russian had always been a language that Nadia had wanted to learn, but no schools, or very few, offered it. "I take it you speak Russian then? Oh! Why did you come here then... I mean Russia... why would you move away?"
