History:
Francis Cohn was born to Eliza and Jim Cohn on the tenth of February nineteen
ninety two. He has a twin sister called Rayne with whom is he not very close. His early
life was relatively normal. He didn't show any talents or anything special about him at
all that would set him apart from the rest of the children. Rayne was something else from
the day she was born. She started talking first, dancing when she began to walk, singing
as soon as she could talk and reading before she even got into first grade. Francis was
always referred to as "Raynes little brother" and his parents made no attempt to hide
their disappointment in his lack of ability academically or otherwise. He always tried to
prove himself worthy of their praise but never managed to get it.
Francis was a nobody at home but from the moment he walked into school everyone
loved him - he was interesting and witty and didn't have the air of superiority to him
that Rayne did. Thus he was instantly popular. He realised he was funny and good
at talking to people - not things that would gain him the pride of his parents, but
instead he got the affection of his peers, which was almost better. Rayne loathed
that the school children enjoyed Francis' company of hers, she was smarter than
him, smarter than all of them, surely she should have the upper hand. Nothing
she could say or do would make everyone like her. She wished she was like Francis,
for the first time in her life, Rayne wished to be someone other than herself. However,
Francis didn't not understand this. He loved Rayne and constantly wanted her praise
but her envy of his popularity meant that his affection was rarely returned.
When they were thirteen, Rayne was selected for an elite mathematician boarding
school. Jim and Eliza were thrilled by the news, Francis was both upset and
excited for her. He would really miss her, but he knew this was giving her
and amazing opportunity. In the meantime Francis was becoming a bit of a rebel
- he was smoking and drinking excessively and being a brat, he was done with
trying to please his parents, finished with striving for their approval. He was his
own man now, he lived for himself and his friends. He was becoming the charismatic
ring leader of a teenage posse of vandals and skaters. It was during this time
that he took up BMXing and realised that he had perfect balance. he thought nothing
of it at the time but now he realises it is one of his powers. He loved going out
and rarely came home, no one could convince him to do anything once he
decided something.
Little did he know, Rayne was getting up to the same sort of thing at boarding
school, she was expelled after the first semester and sent home. Francis was
thrilled to see her - she was different now, she wasn't the good girl who'd left
she was someone different; she was rude, she was upfront, she partied hard
and never worried about consequences or homework. She told Francis she'd
"found herself" at boarding school. She'd been "living a lie", Francis saw through her
- she just hadn't been happy with who she was, so she'd changed. It was nothing
to do with who she "truly was".
Aged sixteen, Francis realised that his balance was a gift, he also could feel
strong emotions and tell when people were lying, he didn't understand
what this meant, perhaps everyone felt like this at some point and he just hadn't
been told. A few months later he got an acceptance letter to Orchid Hill Academy
for the Gifted. His parents snorted, "You are not gifted, Francis, we are not
paying for you to live a lie." Francis went anyway.
