((Set in early August. And yes I know it's awkward and short and jumpy, but hey, so am I. Well, barr short.))
"Tam, c'mon, you're going to love the people at this party!" Anike announced, grabbing Tamika's arm and half pulling her down the road.
"I think I'm kind of partied out Ani, rad people or not."
"Well tough, you're going. I don't have anyone else to go with."
And so Tamika had given in and let herself be dragged to some rich kids party and everyone was speaking in french slang so she was sitting hopelessly alone in the corner sipping on a Black Russian and waiting for Anike to come back so she could escape. Much to her dismay, Mat, Anike's brother came over with a grin across his face.
"Tammy! So glad you could make it, having fun?"
Tamika sighed and stirred her drink with her straw, "To be honest Mathieu, not particularly. There's like, 3 people who don't speak in foreign slang, and I don't even know who's party this is."
"Well then, come have a dance with me and I'll point out everyone!"
With a scowl, Tamika finished her drink and went out to the 'dancefloor' (actually just a living room floor with no furniture on it) and began to sway to the music with Mat.
"Now, him over there, that's Thomas, and beside him his brother Charles. And they're with their girlfriends Monica and Lola. Then that's Frank, Coco, Sasha, Bulldog..."
Tamika zoned out. She didn't really care, she was just being polite. There wasn't really much chance of seeing these people again at any point in the near future, so why bother learn their names. As one song blurred into another and she began having to hold onto Mat so she didn't fall over, Tamika decided it was time to have a break.
She leant in and shouted in Mat's ear, "I'm going for a cig, I'll be back in a few."
He nodded and Tamika went off in search for the smoking area. Her unsuccessful search led her to a games room, a bedroom (Yeah, best not remember that), and eventually the kitchen. She stomped her foot in frustration, cracking the heel of her shoe and sending her down. Tamika braced herself for the fall but someone caught her.
"You okay there?" A male voice asked.
Someone who speaks English!
"Yeah, my heel just broke. Thanks for catching me," Tamika replied, getting back onto her feet.
"Always helping a damsel in distress," the guy laughed. Tamika turned round to argue about how she wasn't a damsel, when the breath was taken out of her.
Hello Prince Charming...
"I, uh.. Outside, cigs..."
Prince Charming grinned, "You looking to go outside to smoke?"
"Yes, yes!" Tamika nodded, "That's it."
Well done girl, make a fool of yourself.
"Well, if you don't mind, I'll join you. Would you like a beer?"
Tamika smiled politely and took the beer from him and then he led her out to a back padio. After general nattering over a few cigarettes they went back into the house, and after Tamika discarded her broken shoes, they went to dance. After awkwardly shuffling a few inches apart for one song, Tamika, deciding to be slightly bold, brushed her hands up to hold his. He raised an eyebrow and gave a cocky smile, pulling her closer.
"Y'know, you never told me your name," Tamika reminded him.
"Twitch, and yourself?"
"Tammy."
"Well Tammy, it is a pleasure to meet you," Twitch smiled, pulling her hand up to kiss it. Tamika's heart skipped a couple of beats.
"Uh, and you..." Tamika squeeked out.
So the night continued on in that fashion, dancing, talking, drinking and occasionally Twitch would peck Tamika on the cheek, causing her pulse and breath to get completely out of their sync. Tamika didn't even bother caring that she'd lost Ani and Mat hours before. It was like that old cliche thing where you can see no one in the world but the object of your affection, and my could this boy hold it.
So now, it was 3.30am, and they were lying out on the grass staring at the stars.
"So who's party is this anyway?" Tamika asked, still curious.
"Mine. Why?"
Tamika proped herself up on her elbow, meaning to stare down at him in shock. Instead she noticed how his features softened with the moonlight. She stared for what seemed like a few seconds, resisting the urge to reach out and brush her fingers across his face. Her trance was broken when he snapped his fingers in front of her face.
"Did you zone?"
"Um, yeah, sorry..." She blushed.
"It's okay," he smiled, "So as I said, why'd you ask?"
"Honestly? I was expecting the kid who was having this party to be some poncy rich kid, but..."
"Instead it's being thrown by some tattooed biker guy that has stolen your heart."
Tamika was getting to the stage were an egg could be fried on her forehead, if someone was that way inclined. She reached out and lifted his right hand, bending and straightening his fingers for something to do.
"Look, Tammy. I am, believe it or not, a great believer in acting on impulse and Madame fate. So, would you like to get married?"
Her eyes went wide as she dropped Twitch's arm, "I'm sorry, you what?"
Twitch sat up cross-legged in front of Tamika and gave his cocky smile again, "Would you, Tammy, like to get married to me, Twitch?"
"I... Wha... We don't even know each others full names or anything else about each other..."
"Ok, name,.Age. Hobby. Favorite book."
"Tamika Anne Dombrovski. Nearly 17. Painting. The Shining. You?"
"Jerome Rebeaud. 22. FMX. Jericho Falls."
"You're 22?!" She shrieked, "My mother would kill me!"
"Sweetie, age is just a number. It's meaningless compared to everything, everyone knows that," he whispered in a reassuring way, before leaning in to press his lips against Tamika's.
Her heart was close to stopping now.
"I'll only say yes if you have a ring," she just about managed when he pulled away.
"That, m'lady, I can do," Twitch grinned, pulling a silver band off his pinkie and slipping it onto her wedding finger. They both lay back down on the grass and Tamika cuddled up to Twitch.
"So, I'm going to be Mrs Tammy Rebeaud..." She mumbled, looking down at the ring.
This has been one hell of a party...
