Steve glanced across his desk, looking at the clock that sat on his shelf, and then looked back down to the sheet of paper in front of him, tapping his pencil, until he reached thirty in his head, and then started to draw again. He was meant to be in class...which one?
He shrugged of the question, and started to sketch some lines. He should go down and get some lunch soon, but he didn't feel too hungry.
What was that? He looked up, hearing a knocking on the door, which was strange. Usually the boys would just walk in and out of each other's rooms, not caring what the person was doing inside.
"Steve? Are you in there?" Said the voice. The voice that he could recognize anywhere. The voice that made his hair shoot white.
"Macy?" He asked, looking around quickly for a hat to cover his hair. Finally he grabbed one, shoved it on his head and ran it over to open the door. He opened it to find a tall, blond girl, wearing a small black dress, with a light pink t-shirt under it, and sneakers. Her hair fell down to just below her shoulder. She was looking a bit pale, and her eyes looked slightly pink, as if she had been crying.
"Hey, Steve. Um, what are you doing?" She asked, her eyes darting around his room, her voice sounding slightly cracked and hesitant.
"Nothing, just sketching. What are you doing?" He asked, trying to catch her blue eyes, that had hints of grey in them, like rain clouds drifting across the sky.
"I was, uh, just walking around. I'm not in class at the moment, and lunch is next, and I haven't seen you in a while." She said, looking at the floor, then at his shoes, and finally looked up at him, her eyes lingering on his hat before looking away again.
"Yeah, sorry, I've just been doing some art, and my head is going kinda crazy lately so I haven't been going to classes, and um, do you want to come in, or anything?" He asked, realising that they were just standing at the door.
She shook her head and sighed. Steve finally caught her eye, starting to feel a bit jittery, wondering what was wrong. He could feel his hair turn blue, and the electricity surged through him, being earthed through his feet.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" She finally asked, smiling a bit. Steve smiled, trying to hide the fact that his heart was beating so fast. He nodded and closed the door.
They walked through the Common Room, down the staircase, and into the Main Corridor, all in silence.
"Oh, here.." Steve said, remembering about a picture that he had done of the dining room, with everyone sitting in it, and he had drawn Macy in the corner, leaning over a book.
He searched through his pockets, and finally brought it out of his back pocket. He handed it to her, who looked at it. She smiled and a bit of colour came to her face, and she stared at it for a second.
"There's me.." She whispered, touched the picture lightly with her finger, before looking up at him. "Thank you, I'll add it to my collection." She said, folding it up, and putting it in a pocket in her dress. "But, I wanted to just tell you something." She said, looking at floor, the colour fading from her cheeks again. Even though she was taller than him, he leaned down a bit, to look into her eyes, but they just stared though him.
"Okay..." She said, taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry...about when you said...and I just flew..." She said, her voice choking on her words. He could see hint of ice gathering on her eyes.
"Oh, Macy, don't worry, please don't worry. Please don't..." He said over and over again, rubbing her back. He felt her shake, and realise that he was shocking her. "Oh, sorry..."
She looked up at and smiled, and started to walk down the corridor again, heading towards the Hospital Wing.
"But I just wanted to tell you that, um, you're, like, my most favorite person, okay?" She said, looking up at his eyes, before looking away again.
"Okay, yeah, I understand. Thank you." He said, smiling. He knew that this was hard for Macy, he knew that she wasn't good at talking about her feelings, or whatever. He didn't feel like it annoyed him, or anything, because some people could misunderstand it as being rude, or cold, but Steve knew that she didn't mean to do it, it was just something that she couldn't help, after everything that had happened to her. Anyway, Steve knew what it was like to be misunderstood.
She didn't smile, like she usually would after they talked, she just stared away from them, down towards the Hospital Wing.
"Have you taken your medicine today?" She asked, changing the subject.
"Eh, I haven't, um, today..." He said, pushing his hat back, slightly.
"Right, come on." She said, turning around and walking on towards the Wing, not turning around the see if he was following her. Of course he was, it didn't matter if he didn't want to take his meds.
He could just feel an energy from her, it didn't matter what she said, or tried to explain, he knew what she meant. He knew she felt, and she knew it to.
"Come on!" She said, turning, before walking on. It was then that Steve realised that he was just standing there. Watching her.
