Madeleine tilted her head at the photograph, with a wry smile. "I doubt I'd look as good as she does with it even if I could make my hair look like that!" she chuckled. "I'm not so good with my hair. I can manage a hairdryer and straighteners, and that's about all I can do!" Thankfully, she seemed to have inherited the Baudelaire curls - hair that usually looked quite good when left to its own devices. She only ever had a bad hair day the morning after she'd tried to do something to her hair! Usually she left it to someone else to style it for her. Now, there could be an idea... "Do you think that you could try it on my hair?"

Macy tilted her head, looking at the picture, then at Madeleine. "I'm not sure, I'm not too good with hair. Lemme see..." She said, picking up her hairbrush, shaking out some of the blond hairs that were trapped in it, and leaned over to brush her friend's dark hair. Yes, she could have gone over to the opposite bed and gotten Madeleine's own hairbrush, but Macy's was right there. Once the hair was very smooth, Macy glanced down at the picture, and then attempted to recreate it. "I'm not too sure, because you're hair isn't as curly as in the pictures, but if I take a clip and place it there..." She said, leaning over to her desk, to grab a clip that was in her own hair earlier, and twisted it into Madeleine's hair. She then tried to make it slightly tighter, but pulling the sides up, and taking two more smaller clips, she pinned them in. "Hmm, how does that look? It isn't exact, but I have to say, it's good for a first try. What do you think, Mimi?" She asked, standing up. She took Madeleine by the elbow, to bring her into the bathroom, where the largest mirror in the room was. "It isn't exactly like the picture, but oh well..."

She was really going to have to do something about this "Mimi" thing. Still, she followed Macy into the bathroom, and glanced in the mirror. Oh. Wow. "Take back what you said about not being good with hair, Macy," Madeleine breathed. "That's amazing." All of a sudden, some of Madeleine's hair had been pinned back almost elegantly, but sort of casually; and it made her face look clearer, more sculptured, her eyes bigger... How could three clips do that? "I think you're a miracle worker, Macy," she added, with a laugh. "Wow!"

Macy blushed slightly and laughed. "Oh, here..." She said, lifting out a little piece of ice that she accidently left from her hands. "Well, there you go. The Academic can do something more than learn things. Oh, hey, let's doll you up. I'll go get my make-up..." She said, running over to her bed, and rummaged through her drawers. She sat down, and looked at the picture again. "Hmm, it's kinda smokey eyes, and a light blush..."she said, looking through her make-up kit, bringing out what she needed. "Do you mind?" She asked, holding up the brush, but wanting to make sure that Madeleine wasn't the type of people who didn't like others to do her make-up.

Irresistably reminded of Jace Sorley - her "gay best friend" who had been doing her make-up every time they saw each other for years - Madeleine nodded, smiling. "Sure, no problem." It might make her look less like the mess she was currently looking like, anyway. Sometimes, the stress of running a pack of teenage warriors could take its toll. Macy seemed to be quite unaffected by running a group, though, Madeleine thought jealously, for probably the thousandth time. "So, did you learn how to put make-up on so well, or did you just pick it up?" she asked, submitting to Macy's brushes.

"You think I'm good? I don't think I am, I hardly really wear much make-up, anyway." She said, showing the her the still quite full blush set that she got for Christmas. "When I go out for morning classes, I wouldn't usually wear make-up, only a few times I would, but at lunch I would put on a bit of foundation, some mascara, and whatever. Close your eyes..." She instructed, while putting on some eye shadow on her friend's eyelids, immatating the picture. "I got this make up for Christmas from my aunt, the one that I used to stay with when I was small during the summer." She said, not sure if she had told Madeleine about her childhood summers in her aunt's farm. "It's strange not seeing her this year, but I might take a day out and take the train to her farm." She said, thoughtfully. "Is this okay?" She asked, making sure again that she was still okay with Macy doing her make-up."I promise you won't look like a Chinese doll afterwards." She laughed.

"It's fine," Madeleine laughed. "No, I was just wondering because if you're attempting to copy something out of a magazine, you must be at least reasonably good! And if you're as good with make-up as you seem to be with hair..." Honestly, it made such a difference. She actually looked nice, and with barely any effort at all on Macy's part. It was crazy. How come she couldn't do that?

"Well, thank you, but I think it's just being able to look at the details in the picture, and copying it. I'm sure you'd be able to do it aswell." She said, concentrating on putting some final touches on Madeleine. "I'm almost done...Mimi..." She said, smiling. She didn't know that she was able to copy the hair and make-up from an image in a magazine. "There..." She said, setting down the blusher on her bedside table. "Here, come back into the bathroom." She said, picking up the magazine with her. She held up the picture that she had copied. "I actually think you're prettier than her." She smiled. "What do you think?" Macy asked, jumped up on the counter beside the sink, freezing the little drops of water that were lying in the sink.

Madeleine laughed as Macy said this, leading her into the bathroom. “I really don’t think I can be prettier than she is, but thank you for the compliment, anyway.” Ha, she wished she could be even half as pretty as the model! Still, it was nice of Macy to say it, even if it wasn’t true. She got to the mirror, and got a surprise. Macy’s copy of the make-up was flawless, and even with just smoky eyes and some blusher – God, she looked different. Her skin looked… it glowed, and her eyes looked all the more blue, lashes darker – she looked pretty. Now, Madeleine would never call herself ugly. She wasn’t, she was perfectly average-looking, and she had advantages in that she had clear skin and bright blue eyes, but she knew that she was nothing… special. And that was fine, usually. But sometimes… well, sometimes it was easy to feel inferior and discontent. But Macy’s make-up… well, wow. Madeleine laughed, spinning to her. “Are you sure this isn’t a secret power of yours?”

"No, I'm pretty sure it isn't." Macy replied, smirking. "Now, if you just put on a nice dress, then you're ready for the ball, my dear Cinderella!" Macy fiddled with an extra bobble that she had on her wrist. She turned around to look at herself in the mirror. Sighing, she ran her fingers through her hair that she had just tied up, to get it out of her eyes when she was reading. She looked at her face, and wondered what it would be like if she had lovely, dark hair, like Madeleine. She wished that she would dress herself up some more. She had dark bags under her eyes, and her body- well, she had no shape. She was just tall, and thin. She wanted curves, though, and she didn't want to be as tall. "Hey, do you think I should cut my hair over the summer? Like, I think I'd want it to be quite short, for next year. You know, it'd be fun if I came back for the new term, like, looking all different. With short-ish hair, and I think I could make a bit on an effort in my appearence. But it wouldn't last." She said, laughing.

"Like you'd need it," Madeleine laughed, with a hint of envy. "I think you'd look nice with short hair, but your hair is lovely as it is. If you're brave enough to go for it, then go for it! I don't know if I could ever cut mine off, though," she said, touching the end of her curls. What a strange turn of phrase. Madeleine, Head of the Warriors - too scared to cut her hair short! She'd always had long hair, and not having that would be...weird. She tilted her head, studing Macy's face. "You would look nice with short hair, I think."

Macy frowned, and looked back into the mirror. "I really don't know, though. I'll have to think about it, like when I go home. It'll all depend, I guess..." She stared at herself for a minute, before snapping out of it, and turning back around, and began to walk out of the bathroom. "Wow." She said, looking over the dorm. At each of their beds, all the things that made them different from each other. Her eyes drifted over to her own area, which was rather distinct, what, with all the ice and books. "Remember the very first night coming here?" She asked, thinking back. Of course, Macy remembered it. She could remember all the details of it, as she could with lots of memories.

Madeleine nodded, perching herself on the edge of the bath. "Yeah." How could she forget it? Arriving at Orchid had completely changed her life. The night she had arrived here had been the pivotal moment, the defining day. She was just about to become Head of the Warriors, to do so many things, to meet so many people. She could remember every bit of it, because it was the both the start of her life changing, but it was also the last bit of the old life, too. "It wasn't really as long ago as it seems, was it?" she asked, rhetorically, but looking at Macy anyway.

Macy took a deep breath, and glanced around at the dorm room. "Yeah, I know, it feels like it was a lifetime ago, dosen't it?" She laughed, almost to herself, thinking about it. It was hard to believe that just over a year ago, she was attending a normal school, trying to hide her powers as much as possible, always wearing leather gloves, so she wouldn't freeze everything she touched. Her mother had written a letter to the school, explaining why she had to wear them, and it wasn't too fun trying to explain to her fellow students why she wore three or four pairs of tights in the summer, or why her skin was icy cold. But at Orchid Hill, Macy didn't have to hide her powers, she could just be herself, and best of all, she had friends that actually understood her, and let her just act normal. "But I'm really glad that we're here, like I don't know what it'd be like not knowing you, or Will, or Kira, or Steve, to think of it." She said, smiling. "I really feel that I belong here, you know. I fit in here better than I did back home." She said, beginning to walk back into the room.

"I really feel that I belong here, you know. I fit in here better than I did back home." Madeleine thought back to being back at 'home', where she belonged, and felt a little uncomfortable. Could she say that? Honestly? Things had changed a lot. Madeleine had never questioned for a second that she was always going to spend her life travelling from camp to camp, and while she'd never belonged to somewhere physically, she'd belonged to that life. But now, she'd kind of settled into Orchid, and she was left without really belonging in either life. Parts of each life seemed alien at certain times, and... "Yeah," she said, softly. "I don't think I can say that, but I can see what you mean. Here and home are just confusing me right now, but, in any case, I don't know what it would be like knowing you guys either. I definitely wouldn't be the same person, anyway..."
