Macy Deltine's Home, 26th December, 11.32am
Macy sat on her sofa, staring at the ticking clock on the mantle piece. Her mother was in the kitchen, drinking tea. She had arrived home a few days earlier, the day after the Christmas Formal. She had come home, and her mother had 'surprised' her with a new boyfriend, Nigel. He was a shop owner in the town centre, and they met at a bar that her mother went to with her friends. He was alright, but was basically the same as every other guy.
"Macy? You wanna go shopping? The sales are on.." Her mother called in from the kitchen. Macy stayed silent for a minute and finally replied.
"Yeah, I don't care."
It had been Christmas the day before, and time apart from her mother had really taken it's toll. Macy had been given a cd of a band that she used to love, but now hated, and Macy had given her mother a scarf that she thought was nice, but her mother went all...silent at it. It turned out that it was the same scarf that her ex-boyfriend had bought her.
Macy had also opened the presents from her friends, which included a sketchbook that Steve had filled up with pictures of things she liked. Her mother looked at it, and was confused at how Macy was so happy at getting some drawings from a boy, that in a picture of the two of them that he had drawn, had green hair.
"They had a new cafe down Rosily Road, do you want to try it out?" Her mother asked, coming into the Living Room.
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll go get ready." Macy said, standing up, and heading upstairs to her bedroom. They had hardly said anything since she had come home. Her mother was still hung up on Macy getting kidnapped during school year, but they didn't talk about anymore.
Macy entered the familiar, yet un-familiar surroundings that was her bedroom. It was small, about a quarter of the size of the dorm back at Orchid. Her bed was crammed into the room, by her desk that took up most of the extra room that the bed didn't. She also had old posters from magazines that she had cut out when she was eleven.
She picked up her coat, and put on her shoes, fixed her hair and then came back downstairs where her mother was already in her coat, her long hair pinned back nicely.
"Ready?" She asked, heading out to wards the door. They went over to the car, and her mother stopped and sighed. "Oh, Macy, can you get out the de-icer?" She asked, beginning to pick the ice on the window.
"Um..mum?" She said, walking over to the windscreen, and touching it. The ice melted from her touch, and ran down the hood of the car, unto the ground.
"Oh, I keep on forgetting about that. Thanks." Her mother said, getting into the car. The drove down though Macy's town and it felt as if she had never left. They finally parked in the car park on Rosily Road. They started to walk up it, to wards The Alcove. As they walked, Macy took in her surroundings, how different it was to Orchid Hill. For one, the people were so unaware of everyone else. Nobody seemed to notice the icy trail that was being left behind Macy's feet. In Orchid, everyone knew everyone else, and they all seemed...connected.
They were about to walk through the door of the cafe, when somebody called out Macy's name. She turned to find a group of people, about her age, on the other side of the road.
"Um, can I see you in there?" She asked her mother, before running across the road to them.
"Macy! You're back!" One of the girls, who was called Cassie, said, running over to hug her.
"Yeah, aren't you at that weird boarding school for the really smart?" A boy, called Dave, asked, as the rest of them huddled around her.
"Yeah, I'm still there. I'm actually a school official now. It's really good there, I love it." She said, not really wanting to explain the groups, or the school in general.
"Hey, we're going into town, do you want to come?" Cassie asked, but Macy realised that they were so different now. They were all wearing strange clothes, that hardly anyone in Orchid would wear, and they all felt..different, than people with powers would. They almost felt empty.
"Um, sorry, I can't. I'm going out for lunch with my mum at the moment. I should actually go back in and meet her. But I'll see you all around!" She called over, crossing the road and going back into the shop. he came in and sat down, and had never realised how much she belonged in Orchid Hill.
