Name:
Olivia Sarah Skye
Age:
16
d.o.b. 16th July 1991
Physical Description:
Olivia is a very noticeable person. When she enters a room – you know about it. You can’t really pinpoint what exactly is – some people say it’s the way she swings her fiery red hair, or the glitter in her emerald green eyes, her milky skin, the pout of her full lips, her slow seductive smile, her slightly husky, refined way of talking, her long, lithe limbs, her graceful, poised stance…
She is about 5”8, with a slim, light body well suited to the gymnastics she used to practice and the yoga she now carries out religiously. Because of this, she’s incredibly flexible and agile, which can often be a great asset. However, although she’s slim, she has a great figure, with curves in all the right places.
Her favourite asset is her red hair, which is long, with a smooth, gentle wave – and it’s always clean and soft, and smelling of papaya.
Clothing Description:
Olivia doesn’t often wear black unless it’s in the little black dress way. She likes most colours – but definitely not pink. It clashes terribly. She loves wearing green, to bring out her eyes and set off her hair. Her clothes are always stylish, but sometimes she pushes the boundaries of decency. But she likes it that way. It’s interesting.
She loves shoes. She owns probably far too many pairs, in way to many colours, but they’re all mostly heels or pumps, or boots. She owns a couple of pairs of Converse, but prefers her other shoes more. The pair of Caterpillar boots she owns she never wears. And she only owns one pair of trainers that she uses only for dirty work.
Personality:
Olivia’s personality is as bright as her hair and eyes – she shines. She’s bright, bouncy and flirty, with a wicked sense of humour (which can quite often be rather sick). Although she had a bit of a tumultuous upbringing, it’s had a good effect on her, and she lives life trying to make it as fun as she can. She’s very optimistic, with a sunny disposition which she uses to try and make people happy. She can find something to brighten things up in any situation – and if something really, really bad happens, she knows that it’s better just to shut up and keep silent about it. Unfortunately, she also has a temper to match her hair, and can fly off the handle really easily. Mixed with a tendency to be impulsive, sometimes the results aren’t good.
She’s an extremely good Carer, because she has very good instincts when it comes to medicine and when and where to heal. She works very well on her own, but her talent comes out best when she’s leading a group. She’s a natural leader, and can take charge of any situation.
Of course, that also means she can manipulate any form of situation to her advantage, which probably isn’t such a good thing. She can be quite good at manipulation, and when using it on a guy, all it takes is a small pout and he’s suckered.
Oh, that brings up another one. Olivia likes her men. She’s a complete flirt, and will flirt with just about any guy within a certain age bracket. However, if she doesn’t like the guy like that, she will make it clear that it’s all in fun.
When she is with someone in a relationship, usually it doesn’t last long – but, like most girls, Olivia wants to find “the one”. Her mother’s experiences could prove to her that there’s no such thing, but her optimism absolutely refuses to let her believe that.
History:
Olivia was born to a non-gifted mother, who already had a four year old son, Keith. She didn’t really have the most privileged start to life – they lived in a small council flat in a rundown part of their town. Olivia didn’t ever meet her dad – when she was a kid, her mum told her that he had been a soldier, and had died out in the Gulf. When she was older, she discovered this was a complete lie – “total balls”, as Keith put it – and that her mum didn’t actually know who her father was.
Keith knew his dad, James, but he didn’t actually live with them. He saw him every other Sunday, but didn’t like going there much. Well, at all.
Olivia was a typical little girly girl, who liked to wear her hair in plaits and make daisy chains, play castles and dream of Prince Charming. She loved stories, and loved it when her mum could sit on her bed and read from a book of fairytales at night, in her raspy, smoker’s voice. However, since her mum worked long hours and graveyard shifts, this was a rare occurrence, and when they were babysitted by a cousin, Olivia never got read stories, because her cousin would sit in the living room making out with whatever boy she was with at the time.
She was never close to her mum and brother - in fact, as she got older, she grew to hate them. Deliberately distancing herself from them, she refused to follow their common way of talking and their slouches, instead taking gymnastics classes and teaching herself how to talk properly. Keith sneered at her, telling her she was setting herself above them and felt superior - which she didn't. She just wanted to.
When she first discovered that if she fell, she could close the cut, and making things out of thin air, her mum considered sending her to another gifted school for younger children, since she couldn’t cope, but this was a school that worked for profit, and they couldn’t afford it, and she would “just have to stop doing it, okay?”
Keith – well, whether he was jealous or not, they didn’t know – was really horrible about it, calling his little sister a freak and other awful names all the time.
Throughout her childhood, Olivia was aware of several men being at the house, always told to call them “Uncle”. There was Uncle Ryan, Uncle Rob, Uncle Johnny…
When he became a teenager, Keith started to go off the rails. Drinking, soft drugs, fighting – he even started to hit Olivia, but after a few months she started to retaliate with her powers, and he backed off. She never quite got over that though, but hey, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?
Keith just kept getting worse – joyriding, theft… The school counsellor said that it was due to “lack of a stable” male figure. Their mother – who before this point, had completely let herself go, and was almost as bad as Keith himself with her swearing, and often, like Keith, thought that Olivia believed herself superior to them and reacted strongly - protested that he saw his dad on a regular basis, and he was responsible.
Olivia begged to differ. “Uncle James” was a total waster, and Olivia knew that Keith was smoking his joints.
She tuned it out, most of the time, until she was finally old enough to go to Orchid, when she left at the earliest opportunity. She stays there over Easter and Christmas, only going back in the summer – and still Keith is on a steady decline. She’s lost count of how many times he’s been held in the cells.
At Orchid, she started discovering the joys of relationships. And there were many of them – only, the one promise that she always makes to herself is that she will never, ever, ever end up like her mother.
And she won’t.
