Will walked around the cul-de-sacs and streets of where all the Cardsalians lived. It was quite a pretty place considering the size of it. Still, nothing was better and prettier than her home. Well they were her thoughts.
"I'm sure other people think this place is prettier and better than their own homes," Will sighed at the thought.
Her feet carried her on up around a loop and back down again. She walked passed an old couple taking a walk and still holding one another's hand.
Aww, that's so sweet! Will smiled to herself as she carried on around the corner.
"It's good to know that old people can still live young!" she sighed to herself ((if you get what I mean)).
She walked down the hill and through the park. Kids were mucking about and families where having pic nics.
"They should know better than to ahve pic nics at this time of crisis," Will thought out loud. Two children ran in front of her, causing her to trip. She was expecting to crash to the ground when somebody caught her.
"Hi," a deep voice sounded.
She looked up and saw a boy. He was tan, dark hair, dark brown but could easily mistaken for black eyes and he was well built.
"Hi," her face went red.
"Hi, I'm Jessen, Jessen McCarthey!" he put her back on her feet and shook her hand.
"I'm Will, Will Wright, nice to meet you. So do you live around here?"
"Yes,"
"Cool," she looked up into his dark eyes.
"Do you live around here?" he asked her too.
"No, can't you tell by my accent?" Will asked, astonished that he couldn't tell she wasn't from here, "Ich wohne in Deutchland,"
"Where?"
"Germany!" Will was now confused. How could he not know where she came from. Did her accent or her speaking German not tell him?
"Oh,"
"How could you not tell?"
"I've never heard of it before,"
"I find that hard to believe," Will started to walk away.
"But it's true, I haven't!"
"Whatever," Will waved her hand behind her.
She was halfway down the lane when he came in front of her.
"What?"
"Can I walk with you?.....please?" he added on.
"If you must," Will answered him forcefeully.
"Thank you," he replied.
"You're welcome,"
They walked on into another street. The houses where big and the gardens where well groomed and kept. It had some manors but most of the were fancy houses. There were plenty of flowers about and a few willow trees.
"This place is beautiful," Will gasped at the sight before her.
"I know, this is where the rich people used to live before the invasion on the town," Jessen explained,"It's a pitty really,"
Will frowned, "Won't the enemy use them as safe houses or something?"
"No, most of them have hi tech security, so no one is allowed in without the right voice and password or the right hand prints or eyes or...well you get the drift," he finfished lamely.
"They had enough money to do that?" Will's voice flooded with mazement.
"Yeah, Cardsdale was very busy at one stage. There were many rich people around here, they got their money from dairy farms and factories and all sorts of businesses, believe it or not!"
"Wow, I never knew that!" Will gazed at him in wonder.
"You really don't know the history of this place very well do you?" Jessen frowned.
"I know that a war has been going on for what? 200 years now and Cardsdale has been stuck in the middle of it. Like it's a neutral ground and some of the residents have picked sides were as other have just fled to a different country and the fact that the two brothers won't agree on anything means more trouble will be coming and no one is winning or losing. I'm going to quote from Harry Potter now but I think it can relate to this war. Neither can live while the other survives! It's true in a way. As long as they both live The school, here and the enemy are never going to get out of this ordeal," Will explained.
"I guess that's one way of putting it," Jessen wondered about what she ahd just said.
"I mean, I would love for it to end but there's no way until they either agree or agree to disagree or one loses," Will frowned again.
"This whole war thing ahs affected everyone in one way or another,"
"Yes, Will, you're right about that,"
They walked around the cul-de-sac. Children were playing in the garden. The sun was blazing and Will was enjoying the stroll. It was better than being stuck up in the school all the time. Besides she still ahd to get everyone christmas presents, which is what she ahd come down here to do but got side tracked with wanting to explore this place more.
"How long have you lived here for?" Will asked causing Jessen to jump.
"About 5 years now," he replied.
"Oh, where do you live?"
"In the basement,"
Will gave him a questioning look.
"My parents don't want me to move away incase I get hurt or something along the way and I don't have enought money for my own house around here so I live in the basement!"
"Oh," she couldn't think of anything else to say.
"So, did you come down here for any reason?"
"What? No, just to walk,"
"Ah right,"
They walked further on to the park again.
"I shall leave you now, it was nice talking to you," Jessen smiled at her.
"See you another time I'm sure," Will called over her shoulder as she headed for the little town with only one thought in her head.
The war must end sooner or later and we will be the ones who come out on top!
