Breakfast.
For Levi, that usually meant a black coffee and a slice of toast, lathered with marmalade. Marmalade was something of an addiction of his - there had been an orange tree in his back yard when he was younger, and his sister used to make award-winning marmalade... it was such a pity...
His thoughts were on what he'd did last night, and he couldn't resist a smirk. He was in pretty high spirits.
Honestly, why hadn't he gone into acting? His performance last night deserved a bloody Oscar. He'd had her completely confused, exactly as he wanted.
And now, the news that Lee Norris was dating Chloe Morphy was spreading around the school like wildfire. He wasn't sure what spread faster, gossip or nits in a primary school playground - but this worked in his favour.
He had a theory. And usually (as with everything else), his theories were generally right.
Levi had spoken to Lee, just before he went into the common room. Poor dude - or, not so. It was obvious that he was still pretty cut up about being dumped, and he seemed jealous of Levi.
That was a new one.
Levi didn't like the guy. No - he really didn't like the nerdy, gawky, "chess-champion" guy. Not since one fatal chess match...
Well, if his theory was right - and he was sure it was - Levi had just made one excellent attack to get him back, and was now in check.
He lifted his knife and dipped it into the marmalade, before spreading the zesty substance over his toast.
Well, back to his theory. Just as he'd kissed Madeleine, Levi had heard the door open slightly. Luckily, Madeleine hadn't - but Levi would bet anything that Lee had seen him kiss her. And that that had prompted him to ask Chloe out.
Life was great. Levi hadn't even needed to manipulate it one bit - life had done it for him!
It was awesome. At times, life worked exactly how Levi wanted it to.
Anyway, Levi would bet his life that when Madeleine heard about Lee and Chloe, she'd come running straight into his arms. It was pretty much a cert. He'd offered a shoulder to cry on, and - voilĂ !
It was genius, pure genius. He deserved a congratulation, big time. Pity there was no one to gloat to.
The door to the dining hall opened, and Levi's eyes fell on Madeleine walking through.
Oooh, she looked angry, and a little upset. And Levi knew what that meant...
He looked back at his toast distastefully. It was now slightly soggy, and didn't look very appetizing at al
Surprisingly, Madeleine came and sat down beside him, in a high temper.
He arched an eyebrow. "Hey?"
"Hi," she said, clearly simmering.
Levi frowned, but was inwardly smirking. She'd heard. And if he was right...
He lifted the coffee pot. "Coffee?"
"Please," she said darkly, lifting her mug.
He poured it carefully. "You alright?"
She shook her head, before stirring in a sugar lump. "Tired."
He'd bet. The good news had probably kept her up all night.
"That all?" he asked sympathetically.
Madeleine nodded, and Levi was distracted as the rack of toasted muffins flew past him and landed neatly in front of Madeleine's plate.
"Nice," he said, seemingly appreciatively - but thinking that it wasn't that impressive, and wondering why the hell she was bothering - it'd be less effort just to lift the bloody thing!
"Thanks," she murmured, lifting a knife and spreading some Nutella over the warm muffin.
Levi wrinkled his nose. Nutella... eugh. And first thing in the morning, too. Gross.
Saying that, if anyone looked like they needed chocolate right now, it was Madeleine.
Honestly - PMS much?
"Sure everything's okay?" he said, in a soft-voiced tone.
She continued to spread her Nutella evenly, focusing on it, not him. "About what you said last night..."
After a pause, he prompted her. "Yeah?"
"Well," she said, still staring at her toast. "The answer's yes."
Levi grinned - but not for happiness. Oh no. In self-congratulation. It had worked - he was now on his way.
Score...
... And now, for phase two....
