"Yeah, whatever," he muttered, knowing full well that he'd never forgive himself. It wasn't something to forgive. "Anywhere you want to go?" he asked, finishing up his drink. "Wander about Cardsdale? Go back up to the school? Or maybe go to our place in the forest?" Our place. It was their's now. It was practically official.

Our place. The words made Madeleine smile, and so alleviating the sharp words that she was going to retaliate to Lee with. Our place... our... It sounded so good. "Our place sounds good," she said, standing up and holding her hand out to him. "Maybe Tom will be there."

"Maybe," he grinned, pulling her upwards and towards him to peck her on the lips. "I'll squish him this time, if you really want, though I'd rather not..."

"It's fine," she smiled. "I think I'm getting used to him. For a spider, he was pretty cool. I mean, he wasn't jumping for my neck or anything..."

"Why would he?" laughed Lee, leading her back outside and onto the bustling street. "Those hands of your's are warm. Spiders don't like that. Human touch is not something they cope well with." His fingers stroked over her's lovingly as he said this, and he found himself thinking how lucky he was not to be a spider. "Our place, then?" he asked her. "Our place," she replied, smiling at him. He smiled back, kissing her on the cheek. He loved that smile- and the way her eyes shone like sapphires every time. Those eyes were really, really something else. Like precious gems- yes, 'precious' seemed a good word. Madeleine was precious- and it was no wonder her parents wanted to protect her. Madeleine was a fighter, sure- but it would never stop Lee from wanting to protect her. Even though, really, he never would be able to. Not properly, at least. And that sucked.
