Macy walked into the village of Cardsdale with Gypsy in the form of a dog running along beside her. She was allowed to go in because she was one of the heads of the groups, and had more power. Around her neck was a special pass to get her in. They were mainly given to older students, but as was written before, she was special.
She went into the Square and sat down on a bench that was facing the fountain.
"Are you not meant to be in school?" An old woman asked, walking past.
"No, this is my free period." she said, showing her pass.
"Oh, you are a group head." The woman said.
"How did you know?" Macy asked, in wonderment.
"You look too young to be let out, unless you are a group head. What group are you head of?"
"Academics. Did you go to Orchid?" She asked. No-one would know this much unless they actually went to it.
"Yes, and I was a teacher. My name is Mrs. Smith. But I was known back then as Prof. Heaton. I taught Water Control."
"Really?" Macy asked. It was strange to come across an ex-teacher.
"Yep." Mrs. Smith said. She lifted up her frail hands to the fountain and made some on the water lift up and curl into a ball.
"Wow." Macy said. She lifted up her hands in parallel to the old woman's hands and froze the ball of water. The ball of ice fell into the water, making a splash.
"Oh, an Ice Controller. I haven't come across one in years. What did you say your name was?" She asked.
"Macy Deltine. And my ice control isn't very good yet. I can do basic things like freeze lakes, making rain turn into ice droplets, things like that."
"Ah, very good Miss Deltine. But you will get better and stronger as you grow, trust me." She lifted up her handbag and took out a small, half eaten loaf of bread. She broke some off and threw them over to the pigeons. They all came running over in a hurry to get something to eat. Mrs. Smith broke off some more and handed it to Macy. Macy started to give some to the birds as well, but noticed a strange looking pigeon.
"Gypsy!" she shouted. The pigeon started to walk away, but Macy caught it in time. The bird changed into a cat and tried to claw her.
"Wasn't that a dog a minute ago...?" The old woman said in shock.
"Yes, sorry, this is Gypsy, she's my cat. Well, shape-shifting cat. Very mischievous." Mrs Smith laughed at the cat and sighed, breaking off more bread and giving it to the birds. They both were startled by the faint ringing of a bell.
"You better go." She said. Macy stood up, gave the last bit of bread away and started to walk away with Gypsy beside her. "It was lovely to meet you, Macy Deltine and Gypsy!" she called.
Macy turned round and smiled before walking on, before she missed her class.
