Misa's heart thumped wildly in her chest. She hadn't stopped running since she left the hospital wing.
She felt mildly guilty for leaving the Nurse like that, she had only been trying to help, but the terror Misa had felt at that simple instruction. It was completely irrational. She was being a bit too close to irrational constantly at the moment. What was happening to her? She just didn't feel like herself anymore.
Perhaps it was this place, the walls felt too close. She hadn't been contained in one place from personnal choice since she was ten.
And with these pains and classes and everything so new...she was losing herself. She was still running, in more ways than one. The grounds were beautiful, so fresh and green, so neat and tidy but, Misa just couldn't find her usually heart to admire them.
The whole point of reaching Orchid was to stop running, to relax and be herself at last. Was this her true self now? Had she lost everything she had used to define herself once upon a time? Her confidence, her laughter, her.
Misa stopped dead. Perhaps she hadn't lost herself. A light rain began to fall and with in Misa settled on the ground. Maybe, she was just hidden somewhere deep within, sheltering herself from the cruel blows this world had dealt her. The true Misa was hiding behind coloured contacts and concealing clothing.
The rain pattered down on her and Misa turned her face up to it, feeling the cool and gentle caress of the water droplets on her heated skin.
She knew what she needed to do. It might take time but she would find her old self again. She would find the Misa that enjoyed conversation, the Misa who hadn't been scarred and destroyed and cast aside until she was needed, then thrown away once more.
Carefully she removed the brown contact lenses from her eyes and vaguely wondered what colour her eyes were at this time, she hadn't thought about it for so long. The rain stopped as abruptly as it had begun and Misa laughed. It sounded forced and unusual but then she hadn't done it in so long.
Misa got back to her feet and wondered calmly back to the school, her contacts left forgotten in the grass.
The rainfall had cleaned the forest, sweeping away weeks worth of old stale smells and imprints leaving the outdoor world of Orchid Hill a blank canvas ready to be paint with the colours of fresh footfall and new conversations.
They would be the real Misa's footprints and spoken words.
