Name: Bradley Kauri Hislop
Age: 17 (December 21st, 1991)
Physical Description: Brad has dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Due to his grans ancestors, he has a little bit of Maori in him, so his skin has a natural tan always. Brad stands at 6 ft 1 in and has an athletic build.
Clothing Description: Pretty much anything Brad wears is going to be based on that perfect jeans+t-shirt combo. Occasionally he will add a shirt or a blazer, if he's feeling adventerous he may add a sweater. Rarely will he dress for a formal occasion, unless it's important or his mum threatens him. He always wears his sharktooth necklace and grandfathers Maori bracelet.
Personalty: He's a general nice guy, laid back, friendly. He enjoys meeting new people and is quite charismatic. He can sometimes go quiet when in a large group, because with many people he prefers to observe. He's fascinated by how people interact with each other, and different dialects. There's nothing he loves more than a good prank war with his brother. Although he is generally in a constant good mood, he goes into a depression around the time of his grandfathers death.
History: Brad was born in Auckland, New Zealand, to Bernie and Shaun Hislop. Shortly after birth his family moved to Kuaotunu on Coromandel Bay. Within a couple of years there were two more additions to his family, in the form of his brother Michael, 14, and his baby sister Carolyn, 12.
Brad grew up in a loving, normal household. His parents did all they could for their children and, unlike the stereotype, he got on brilliantly with his siblings and still counts them as his best friends. As much as he loved his family though, he was never more content than in his grandfathers presence. His grandfather taught him many things, how to fish, how to swim, all about the original Maori tribes.
Unfortunately for Brad, his happy life ended when he started going to secondary school. For absolutely no reason at all he was sought out as a target by older peers, and at least once a week he would return to his home with various cuts and bruises. He started to feel utterly worthless and wandered what the point of life was anymore. It was only his grandfather that kept his spirits up, well, as up as they could be.
On a particularly bad day, Brad's tormentors had decided it would be amusing to chase the younger boy home. Although he was a good runner, it was obvious he was going to be caught by them. For some odd reason the thought crossed his mind that the situation would be easier if he were a field mouse or something. He briefly wished this true and then tried to concentrate on running. A few moments later, Brad dropped to the ground. He squeezed his eyes shut, thinking he had fallen and would now be caught for sure. This would not be the case though, for when he opened his eyes he saw the bullies run past, confused shouts passing back and forth. It was then that Brad caught on he had become the rat he was thinking of. A momentary panic washed over him, was he going to be like this forever? He wished himself to be a person again, and thankfully he did.
Confused by the whole thing, Brad ran to his usual afternoon haunt in the hope for some answers - his grandparents home. In a breathless panic, he explained what had happened, and with a smile his grandfather explained everything to him. How the old man himself possessed powers, and how Brad's mother too had a couple of powers that she tried to ignore. Brad was initially horrified about being the next in line for this weird inheritance, but grew to like his ability.
Things eased up for Brad with the bullies, anytime they came nearby he quickly shifted and they soon grew bored of searching for him. Then, when he was 14, another tragedy bestowed itself upon Brad. His grandfather had developed cancer, but it was found too late and within six months the old man was dead. Brad was crushed, he felt lost, hopeless. Nothing his family could do or say would console him. His temper became violent, he would lash out and send things flying across the room with his telekinesis, or would shift and run away for days on end. After breaking his sisters arm accidentally with a lamp, Bernie and Shaun had enough and sent Brad to an infamous boarding school that Bernie had attended to learn how to control his powers.
A few weeks before Brad was due to leave for his lower sixth year at Orchid Hill, his parents gently broke the news that they couldn't afford to send him back. He took it surprisingly well, and up until December he was doing fine. Then, for no reason, he started to act up again. Unable to handle him any longer, Bernie, Shaun and his grandmother pooled their money to send him back to Orchid Hill in the new term starting in January.
Gifts: Water, Shape Shifting, Telekinesis
Pets: A gerbil named Poirot.
Other: Brad fancies himself as a bit of a ghost hunter, and would hold little vigils in haunted houses with his siblings. He's a comic book fanatic, his favorite being Batman. Brad is fascinated by different religions and dialects, and spends a lot of spare time reading about them. He's open to any type of music, but his particular favorite is indie rock.
Group: Academics.
