ooc: As weird as it will be to role-play with myself... I kinda sorta don't care, lol. I'm a bit bored, and have been meaning to try this out for a while...
Kira sank down in her sofa stonily; back to thinking about her argument with Lee... or... well... was it an argument? It'd been a good week past, and Lee and Sophie's Spying schedule had been postponed for another week or two. Lee hadn't been any less civil towards her... frankly, he'd been so wrapped up in his own little Madelee world... he'd more than likely forgotten all about it! But Kira... She couldn't forget. And she didn't really understand why. If it wasn't a big deal to him, why should it be a big deal to her? But then... if it was such a big deal to her, why wasn't it such a big deal to him? It was a mystery. And Kira liked to think. She did. She liked mysteries. And dreams. And... and all of that fantasy stuff... and Lee used to dream with her too. He didn't do it so often now. Lee didn't have to make up stories to make him happy because he was as happy as he ever needed to be. Madeleine and Lee were the fairytale- the soulmates- the couple that everyone wanted to end up being. So Kira was left on her own, the third wheel; Lee's cousin... just the girl on the side who was still walking through that dreamy haze... And she didn't mind. She didn't want to sound resentful, or anything, because she wasn't. She was happy for Lee- more than happy; she was ecstatic! But... but she was jealous too. Really jealous. Because they had something she wanted. They had love. They had their dream. Then Sophie was... well, Sophie was just someone to lash out at. If Kira could pretend for a bit that she was at least better off than Sophie, she'd feel better. Sophie the skank, and Kira the good girl, the one to warn Lee of Sophie's evil methods of seduction... But in truth... Kira knew nothing about Sophie. All Sophie had done was dance with Lee. So Lee was right. Lee and Sophie... they were friends, and Sophie wasn't a skank and Sophie hadn't done anything wrong. So what was wrong with Kira...? Kira wanted... to be happy... and have that little dream... didn't she? No. She shouldn't. Because she had Deron. And Deron was... argh... he was... "Kira?" She jumped; and her eyes found Jude. He was standing right in front of her, and Kira couldn't honestly say how long he'd actually been there. Still, she was pleased to see him, and gestured to the cushion beside her, inviting him to join her.

Jude grinned at Kira, taking the seat beside her. The Common Room was quite empty now, and he'd actually been meaning to talk to her for a while. The thing was, it was nearly February, and... well... she still hadn't been told, had she? Oh, yeah, by the way, earlier this month your boyfriend tried to murder Steve Ritzski. Don't worry though! I knocked him out after he attacked Macy and me! "Er... hi." Well, it was as good a place to start as any.

"Hi," Kira laughed. "How are y'all- you?" It was sort of terrible just how easily she managed to pick up Jude's accent. He gave her an appreciative grin at that- which she couldn't help but return. There was no denying the irresistability of that Texas accent... but Jude's voice probably had something to do with it, too. Kira thought that the Texas accent never sounded quite so good when it was coming from a girl. She'd just proved that!

"Er... I'm alright," Jude said. "And yourself?" Now... how would he bring this up? He felt like he ought to have planned this before he actually approached her. After all, it was an awkward topic... how close was Kira to Deron, anyway? Jude knew that if someone tried to tell him something like this about Ailith- well, they wouldn't, he reasoned. Ailith wouldn't do that- or well- that was the point, wasn't it? Kira mightn't believe him! But Ailith just wouldn't. She was Ailith. It was... argh. Hard to explain. ... Deron was a different person... but that didn't mean Kira wouldn't react the same way.

"Okay," Kira replied carefully. Okay? Well, not really. Jude... she looked at him carefully. Jude had a bit of a reputation for being someone to... bounce things off, hadn't he? But if she said something of what was going through her head... he'd probably think she was a bit mad. Or selfish. Or silly. He'd tell her that everyone was meant to find someone, because it was what she wanted to hear. But he had Ailith. He wouldn't get it. The point was that Kira... if she took the first step, and believed in soulmates... in Maddie and Lee... well, that would mean believing in fate. In destiny. And Kira was beginning to wonder if destiny had all that great a fate in store for her.

"That's... good." Being polite sucked. How much easier would it be if he had the balls to just spit it out?! But no. He had to be polite. Had to do it right. 'Cause if he didn't get this right... ... well, after all, it was a volatile situation. "So... have you seen that guy, Deron, lately?" he asked her, carefully. Almost casually; flippantly. Certainly not in such a way that she could guess what was coming next. Then again, who could?

Kira froze. Hello, fate... And the truth? "No," she said softly. "Not since before Christmas." Now what? Did she say to him? She watched him carefully, meeting his pale blue gaze. Something dark; unfathomable moved in them, and suddenly, she realised there was more to be said... "Why?"

"Because..." Hah. The moment of truth, right? The moment Jude could potentially smash any of those funny, romantic little dreams Kira could very possibly have... all those wonderful little things Tameron used to tell him he was missing out on before he met Ailith. What Jude was about to say could have devastating impact. He didn't want to say it. He really didn't. "Because Deron... over sort of New Year's..." Jude inhaled deeply. "Y'all know about Steve?"

"Yes..." Kira frowned. What was Jude talking about? Was this something to do with the searches? "Were you working with Deron?" It was a guess; but it made sense. As far as she knew, Jude and Deron didn't even know each other- but if he was bringing up Steve, it probably was something to do with the searches over Christmas. The SCR had been heavily involved. After all, it was their village.

"Yeah... I was," Jude bit his lip. "Kira... there's no easy way to say this..." There wasn't any way to say it at all, full stop. "When Deron found Steve... he... he went a bit mad." Jude watched Kira carefully, whose face had suddenly gone still; pale. "It was... unexpected; unprovoked, s'far as I can tell. Deron pulled a knife, and went for Steve. He was gonna kill him. But luckily, me and Macy were there. Macy got him with her ice, but... he slashed her legs and she fell. He knocked me down too, but I was able to hit him off the wall, and knock him out..." He stopped, and sighed. "And Kira, I'm sorry... but I dunno what's happened to him since then."

............ oh. Oh. Oh. God. Kira knew how she should react. She should break down in tears; she should scream at Jude; she should shout that it was all lies- that she had faith in Deron- that she loved him, and that Jude was an idiot. That that Deron wasn't her Deron- that her Deron just wouldn't do that- he just wasn't like that. Jude didn't know him; nobody could know him quite like her. But oh. Oh, god. That's not how she felt at all. Because Kira wasn't Madeleine and Lee. Kira didn't get that Madelee fantasy; that happy ending; that rush of adrenaline; that stampede of butterflies. All she could feel was... sorry. Sorry that Jude was forced to do that. Sorry that Deron had tried to do that. Sorry that Steve had been attacked, through no fault of his own. Sorry that... ... sorry that she wasn't sorry that she didn't love Deron. "I need to break up with him, then," Kira said quietly; surprised at how easy Deron had made it for her. "I'm... I'm dumping him."

... Huh? It would be pretty safe to say that Jude was 100% stumped. Where was the reaction? Where was the denial; the tears; the fight? Where was the worst outcome- the one he'd just been preparing himself for? Kira almost... she just... ... why wasn't she surprised? "Um, Kira, y'all are okay about all this, ain't you?" he asked her carefully. "I mean, it ain't exactly something that I would... I don't... I'm sorry about Deron, is all."

Kira smiled weakly, shaking her head. "Don't be. To be honest with you, Jude... I've been meaning to break up with him for a while now... it ain't- I mean, it hasn't felt right." Her mother had been right. Oh, God. What kind of hell was that? Her mother was right! Since when was she- how could- what... ugh. And poor Jude looked so confused. "Thank you for telling me," she said softly, "I really mean that..."

"Well... I... er... yeah," Jude half-laughed, still a little disconcerted. Though... he wasn't exactly upset for Kira at all. Deron, from what he'd seen of him... well, the two didn't really seemed to fit. Jude hated Deron's patronizing manner, and hated the idea he'd probably spoken to Kira like that too. And the whole attempted murder thing really hadn't done much in his favor either. There was a few seconds of awkward silence, where, Jude eventually managed to muster a smile, and got unsteadily to his feet. "I'll just... mosey on, then, shall I?" He couldn't really think of what else he was supposed to do.

Kira laughed. "Yeah. Sure. If y'all- you like." Stupid Texan accent. "Um... hey, Jude?" Resist the song. Resist it. Kira bit her lip. "Sorry... business matters... think you'll be up for guard duty some time next month?"
