"Maddie," Lee said, exasperated. "If you're going to upstage me, next time, a bit of warning would be nice." He cocked his head, and smirked. "You just sang in tune. And guess what? It sounded good." Really good, in fact- and it wasn't just an overly-biased infatuation saying that.

She arched an eyebrow in response. Are you serious?! Now, Madeleine didn't really believe in the impossible - much. For example, it was impossible that she could breathe underwater for over a few minutes. It was impossible that she would find the Pythagorean theorum useful one day. It was also impossible that she could sing tunefully. She narrowed her eyes playfully at Lee. "I don't believe you," she said, both honestly and teasingly. Still... really?!

Lee laughed at her. "Believe it, Maddie. You sang- and you did it well. I must bring it out in you," he added, a little teasingly. Then, he gripped her hands, and stepping back from her he took a deep breath, and began to sing something new, faster... "Close your eyes and I'll kiss ya, Tomorrow I'll miss ya, Remember I'll always be true. And while I'm away, I'll write home every day- And I'll send all my loving to you... Well?" he prompted her. "Sing with me!"

Madeleine winced. "Okay, let's not. Let's just agree that I did it once, but testing it is probably not a good idea..." But he continued to sing, looking at her earnestly, and she sighed, realising that she didn't have it in her to disappoint him. "And hope that my dreams will come true..." She had to stop there, because she could hear the terribly off-pitch notes. "No, I told you - even I could hear how desperate that attempt was."

Aw, crap. Well, he guessed it was worth a try. Lee stopped singing, biting his lip. "Then... sing that other song again with me- please?" So, they sang it- just those too lines: ... you've begun to feel like home... He stopped, staring at her. "Maddie, why can you sing those two lines, but can't sing anything (sorry) else?"

Madeleine smiled. "Don't worry, I know I can't sing anything." However, that was an interesting question... why was that? Her lips pursed as she considered it, going over various reasons in her mind. But only one made sense... "I guess it's because that song - and especially those two lines - mean a lot to me... it just kind of ... flows, I suppose."

Lee let go of her for the first time, stepping backwards. What did she mean... they meant alot...? "How?" he asked her, his voice surprising him, it was suddenly so soft... almost gentle...

Madeleine blushed at that. "Well... you know, "always have and never hold" - I told you that my exes never stayed with me when things happened; they had and never held, I suppose you could say. You're... you've stayed, and you're going to stay. I've finally found someone to have and to hold." Still scarlet, she moved on to the next line, watching his eyes carefully. "And the next line... I don't have a proper home; I always thought that home was on the road - though I was getting used to Orchid. When I went back to the trailer over Christmas, I realised that... ugh, this is so cheesy... that it's not home if you're not there. Home is where the heart is and all of that," she added, with a gentle laugh. Corny as hell... but she really, really meant it.

Lee had to laugh. "Home is where the heart is? Gee, Maddie, you're right. That is cheesy..." He stepped towards her again, and tilting her head upwards once more, Lee leaned down; so that his lips just brushing against hers. "But so is this," he whispered against her mouth. And then, he kissed her. The music had inspired him, after all.
