"They did," Jack said darkly. Jack didn't know all the murky details, but being Lee's friend, he knew enough. Madeleine had kissed Lee, and he'd... well basically, he'd freaked out a bit. Everyone already knew Madeleine was down because of the whole Lee thing... ... but that kiss brought it all to a whole new level. And it felt weird, really, that Jack could've been kissing Olivia like that just a few minutes ago, when Madeleine and Lee were like they were. "She kissed him," Jack said slowly. "Did you know that?" Probably. Girls seemed to tell each other everything.

She kissed... Olivia raised her hand to her temple, rubbing it. God. Poor, poor Madeleine. This was so awful - heaven forbid that Madeleine should be able to kiss Lee... It would explain the presumed tears, though. And the fact that Madeleine had disappeared so suddenly after the formal suddenly made sense. Oh no, she hadn't caught sight of Lee and Sophie, had she? "No," she admitted. "No, I didn't. God, that's awful."

Oh. Crap. There's his theory out of the window. It was a difficult situation for Jack to be in; he didn't like to think of taking sides. The choice was his Head and his friend... and Jack didn't want to have to make that choice. He was neutral. He was involved in all the dark, complicated details. He was glad he wasn't, actually. "I know."

"Em... what did he... how did he react?" Olivia asked curiously.

"Not well," Jack sighed. "He's still completely besotted with her you know; even if he doesn't remember why. Kira mentioned later... or it might have been Ellie... sorry," he said quickly, "I'm not too good with the details... but... em... he told her he didn't want to see her anymore... or something." Liar.

He was besotted with her... "Oh... God..." Olivia said, leaning forward and burying her head in her hands. "I'm am so... surprised that she hasn't killed herself over the holidays... why would he do that, if he's besotted with her?"

Um... "I don't know," he said finally. "You'd have to ask him yourself."

Olivia laughed weakly. "I guess we'll never know, then."

"You're not nosy enough to ask?" he laughed.

"Trust me, I'd really, really love to," she smiled. "Right now, I could willingly kick his ass for being so bloody stupid. But it's probably best not to know, I suppose."

Jack winced. Well, it was obvious whose side Olivia was on... "Well," he reasoned. "I mean. It's hard for him too, isn't it?"

"No, I know, I'm sorry," she relented. "I didn't mean that... it's just, you said that he's besotted with her, and it's ridiculously obvious that she's in love with him, so... what's the point in telling her that?" Then, she laughed suddenly. "Or am I doing that typically girly thing where I think more about the heart and emotions instead of considering practicalities?"

Jack shook his head. "No... I get what you mean..." he trailed off, thinking hard. "Maybe... maybe he doesn't know he's besotted with her. Like, denial. So he thinks he's being smart, or doing the right thing. He's into that morals crap..." It made sense- in a crazy, stupid way. Like something off a soap.

"This is like something from Grey's Anatomy," Olivia smiled, before adding teasingly. "Are they typical guy things? Denial and morals?"

"If you say so," laughed Jack. "It depends on the person, I guess..."
