Olivia's head hurt. Really, really hurt. "... and next time Mr. Trove sets so much as a single toe in this ward without an near-fatal injury, Miss Skye..." Nurse Gornray seemed determined to prove that when she wanted to, her lungs could reach the same decibel level as Pavarotti in full flow. Only, it wasn't quite the same thing. When Pavorotti was that loud, he wasn't lecturing Olivia for twelve minutes on the need for proper decorum in a hospital ward. Of course, Olivia wasn't entirely sure what she was doing wrong. Aside from Caine, Will and the odd couple of people throwing up from seasonal hangovers, there was no one actually in the ward, so if Olivia had nothing to do and Jack showed up, there wasn't really any reason why they shouldn't make out on an empty bed, especially if it was behind curtains. After all, when Madeleine had been in hospital after waking up from her coma, she and Lee had done exactly that, only they didn't have the decency to close the curtains. Hey! That was ... em... like class difference? Was Madeleine getting away with it because she was a head? Oh ho, there was a total breach of equality rights. Favouritism from the matron, tut tut. Olivia wasn't really having the best day in the hospital wing today. First off, someone had thrown up all over her shoes, leaving her to spend an hour cleaning it off her. Second, Nurse Gornray was mad at her. Thirdly, all of the Carers had spread rumours around the school about her actions during Will's cardiac arrest, leaving all the Carers and many members of other groups staring at her with awed, open mouthed stares, something which she would normally find gratifying, but was really annoying her today, for some reason. Fourthly, Caine didn't seem very happy with her after he saw her kiss Jack, so any way of having fun was scotched. Fifthly, Jack couldn't come into the ward after Nurse Gornray's ball-bashing fit. So not the best day. But it definitely cleared up when she saw Jack sitting in the common room. "Hey," she said, her face lighting into a smile.

It'd been a tiring day. The search for Steve Ritzski had sort of been fun at first- it was a novelty, and it was new. But the New Year had come and gone, and all the excitement was fading. Steve bloody well knew how to hide! Prof. Thandie was beginning to worry he'd been taken in by the enemy, and planned on contacting the Head of the Spies soon, to see if she could arrange some sort of mission into the enemy camps. Jude had already volunteered himself for the thing. Jack reckoned it was partly because he couldn't stick Deron for much longer, and was eager for the searches to end soon. Deron was... well, he was alright. Jack could tolerate him. On days like today, when Olivia wasn't around and distracting him, it was harder. Jude and Deron... well, they didn't get on well. Deron was cynical, and sarcastic and patronizing. Jude wasn't. Jude hated being patronized just as much as Jack. Like today, when they were heading through the Square, Jude had decided to get some use out of his girlfriend's present; a cherry red Stetson. Jack himself would never get what some guys liked so much about hats; but he had to say, this particular hat did look good. Except, Deron, on seeing the hat, smirked and said, "You do know we're not in Texas anymore, don't you, Jude?" Maybe it was meant to be funny, but it wasn't. Jude just glared at him. And that was weird. Jack never saw Jude with such an open distaste for someone before in his life. "Hey." Jack jumped, looking up to see Olivia smiling at him. "Hey," he smiled back, relieved. "God, you're lucky you missed the search today. It was bloody freezing."

Olivia made a sympathetic noise as she sat down beside him and moved close to him. God, he was right. He was absolutely freezing. "Oh, you are cold," she said. "Well, while you were out getting hypothermia, Nurse Gornray decided to give me a very long talk on how I'm breaching hospital etiquette by having you in the ward, and giving threats as to what'll happen next time. So when you come for a visit, fake a sports injury or something, okay?" She glanced down at her patent ruby red pumps, and winced as she remembered the alcoholic bile that had been spewed over them, tempted to kick them off - even though she'd spent ages cleaning them until they were germ-free and sparkling, and had spent much too long in the shower getting it off her feet.

"Nurse Gornray's no fool," Jack said darkly. "As great as you are, Olivia, I'm not sure the risk is worth a pair of smashed testicles. I need those, you know, if I ever hope to have a family." He sighed, looking over at the fire. It was having little effect. Luckily, Olivia was nearby, and she was so warm her cheeks were flushed. He put his arm around her, feeling a rush of relief at her warmth. "It was a bad day," he said gruffly. "Steve just doesn't want to be found."

Olivia sighed as she rested her head on Jack's shoulder. "God. I can't believe she forced him like that... that was possibly the most stupid thing she could have done. I don't like saying things about her while she's on her sickbed, but she had no right to force Steve's medication on him. That's so... Victorian. When someone refuses to take their meds, there are things you do and things you don't do... she should have gone to Nurse Gornray first. You don't force meds on someone, you try reverse pyschology, and ... ugh." She tailed off, brushing a strand of silky red hair behind her ears. "But what do I know, I'm not Head, am I?" If there was one thing Olivia hated, it was submitting to authority when authority was wrong. There were tiers for a reason, and Olivia had never expected or wanted to be Head, and she did listen to Will - except for the hurdles, for which she'd held a strike over. But when Will did things like this... well, it was hard to listen and stay calm.

"Kinda glad you aren't," he smiled. "I don't think I could stand you working any more hours in that Hospital Wing than you already spend there!" Yes, Olivia was right. This whole Steve thing was a mess. But Jack had heard the story several times from Jude himself, who had actually witnessed it. According to Jude, the medication was forced on him, because Will wouldn't co-operate over different methods of giving it to him. Jack had asked afterward whether there was any other method of giving it to him. Jude said he didn't know; Will wouldn't tell him. Silly, secretive Carer. Like all them big words Olivia had spouted during Will's... agh... cardiac arrest thing. Maybe the Carers all worked within some kind of massive code- maybe they were planning a rebellion! The thought entertained Jack for a couple of seconds- but then he remembered that kid from the Carers, Josh, in Battle Training, and realized with a mild sense of disappointment that a Carer rebellion was never going to happen. And if it was... well, it'd be squashed within minutes.

"It's only over Christmas," she said consolingly, bringing her hand up to his shoulder and rubbing it gently. "I'll be back to normal from Sunday, but I've got tomorrow off, anything you want to do?" She hoped he was free. She really hoped he was. It would be nice to do something with him, especially since she hadn't had a full day to be free with him since before Christmas, and that ... really sucked. But it wouldn't be fair to blame the hospital; there were other things too. There was the search for Steve, which she wanted to join in with, but it would be nice to have some of that time to herself. There was Madeleine - who hadn't asked for help, but Olivia hated the dead look in Madeleine's eyes, and needed to do something about it, needed to fix it. Then there was school work, which she'd been overloaded with. She'd spend half the day on the search, but a spare half-day would be really good.

"I'm searching for Steve every day," Jack sighed. "So are you, when you're not on duty. I don't think I can do it for much longer, though. I may end up hating that Deron guy as much as Jude!" Which, really, would be pretty bad. "I have evenings free though..." he said hopefully. "And, well, I've watched Scrubs, and stuff. Everything always gets offloaded on the interns. Couldn't you just... y'know... offload your work on some of your interns?" Also known as first-years.

Olivia smiled, slowly moving her calf along Jack's, semi-seductively, semi to warm him up. "Nurse Gornray doesn't really like that, and besides, most first-years are away for Christmas, so I can't..." She broke off, before slowly smiling slyly. "I suppose... I have been working far more hours than I should... and after what happened with Will... I guess I did do more work than I should have done... and I did restart her heart... so I suppose that Nurse Gornray owes me an evening off..."

"Exactly," Jack beamed, moving his arm from her shoulder, and sliding it down her back so he could curl it neatly around her waist, drawing her closer. A wave of papaya swept over him, and he felt a wave of shame in hot pursuit. He couldn't even remember if he bothered putting on deodorant today... And Olivia always smelt so good... How could girls stick guys? Seriously. "But maybe... maybe don't mention my name?" He shuddered at the thought. "You can just see her creeping into our dorms at night, with a needle poised and full of poison." Stuff of nightmares.

Olivia gave a low giggle. "I won't, don't worry. I can see it, and it's a scary thought..." As she felt Jack's hand curve around her waist, pulling her closer, she turned her head to kiss him lightly on the lips. "Hmm... I wonder what she would use on you..."

"I've no idea," he winced back from her kiss. "That's what scares me. You're a Carer. You tell me." But, preferably, tell me in words that the common being will understand...

Olivia chuckled alluringly, sliding a leg over Jack's to sit on his lap, leaning forward over his chest and stroking his cheek lightly. "Hmm... maybe one that will slowly torture you... maybe one that will knock out for days at a time... or one that could keep you up all night, hot and sweating..."

Jack pushed Olivia's arm away, and she slid off of his lip with a thump. "Witchcraft," he hissed. "I don't trust you, or any of you little Carers..." It explained her eyes though. No normal human being could have eyes that large, bright green and bewitching...

Olivia laughed delightedly at him. "Oh! You caught me... I'm casting spells on you with the glitter of my eyes... the question is though, is it working?"
