"Kinda, but he just generally yelled at me for doing anything because he didn't really want me that much, it was my mum who had wanted kids, but after she died he was stuck with me. Really annoyed him," Tamika explained.

Madeleine winced. "Sorry. That must have been awful."

"It was sometimes, but he occasionally had his nice moments. Then when I went to live with my aunt we got on great, he started acting more like a distant uncle who checked in occasionally, which was quite cool," Tamika explained. "Gosh, sorry, I'm giving you my whole life story here!"

Madeleine was slightly taken aback. Distant uncle? She was so close to her dad, it was so hard to imagine this... "It's fine, I don't mind," she said, with a small smile. "People's life stories are generally interesting."

Tamika smiled back at Madeleine. "So, what's your story?"

She shyed away from that one immediately. "Not much of one, really. My life has been pretty much perfect up until last year, I can't say much about it at all." Please don't ask...

Madeleine winced involuntarily. "I had an older brother, but he died a year ago."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that..." Tamika said, doing one of those sad kinda smiles people do when someone's died, more like a slight twitch of the mouth...
((Yes, I know, I'm awful at explaining things...))

Madeleine shrugged. "It's alright, it was a while ago." It was, but she couldn't say that it didn't still hurt. She pulled herself up and smiled at Tamika. "So tell me about Russia."

"Hmm..." Tamika started, trying to think of something interesting about her mother country, "There's actually not that many interesting things about it. It's freezing no matter what season, you walk down a street and pass about 20 alcoholics on your way, Moscow's the worlds most expensive city... Actually, ballet is probably the main interesting thing to come from Russia."

"Do you do ballet?" Madeleine asked. She'd been taken a few years ago to see Swan Lake at some opera house or other, and it had been quite amazing - and she wasn't into ballet at all.

"I used to do it when I was younger, but when I moved to Moscow I had to stop because my aunt couldn't afford them," Tamika said sadly. She had loved her classes and was a few lessons off doing her ballet GCSE when she moved.

"I loved it," Tamika smiled, "It was such an escape for a couple of hours a day, I could just dance like I didn't have a care in the world..."
