Macy flopped down in a large leather chair that was facing the window in the common room. The sun was beginning to set, and large rays of light as flooding in though the glass, brightening the room.
She closed her eyes and let the light flood over her. She still couldn't get used to it- the silence. The silence without Natalia. She breathed deeply, her arm hanging off the chair, almost touching the ground...
BANG!
Macy was woken up by the sound of something exploding near her. Her heart was beating rapidly, memories of the cell and the doors banging on the other side of the wall at night...
"Sorry!"
She looked up and saw a boy over at her, breathing as if he had just run a marathon.
"Wha..what just happened?" She said, half-dreamily, half-terrified.
"I exploded something, but it wasn't what was meant to explode, it was a lamp, and do you think that the teachers will shout at me? I think they will because I exploded it, and I wasn't meant to, I was meant to explode that cushion, over there, but I didn't explode it, I exploded the lamp, are you okay?"
Macy blinked at the boy who was talking a mile-a-minute. He looked about 15 or 16, had extremely messy, green hair that had feathers sticking out of it, grey eyes and dark, red rims around his eye lids as if he hadn't slept in days. He also had the strangest accent, it was a broad New York accent, but said some words softly.
"Um.." She tried to think of words to respond to the strange, green haired boy. "Yeah, I'm okay, just a bit shaken..."
"Oh, well, it's good your not dead, because that would be terrible, because I don't like killing people, although I'm not saying that I have killed people in the past, but I'm not saying I have, what's you name?"
Macy tried to put all his words together, then realized that he was asking her name.
"I'm Macy, Macy Deltine. Um..what's yours?"
"I'm Steve, Steve Ritzski, but people like to call me 'Bonkers from Yonkers', because they think I'm crazy and I'm from Yonkers." He said, frowning.
"Yonkers! That's where you're from, I was trying to work out with your accent..." She trailed off, he had tilted his head and was staring right in her eyes. "Um..what are you doing?" She said leaning back, trying to get him to stop coming so close to her.
He realized that he was staring right at her and shook his head. "I don't know sorry, can I sit there?"
He nodded his head towards the edge of the seat that she was on. Even though the seat was meant for one person, it was big enough for two people, but it was mainly only boyfriends and girlfriends that shared one, or best friends. But Steve seemed not to care that they had just met. She shuffled over and he squeezed himself in. Macy felt rather uncomfortable, but had no other choice.
"So, um, you explode things?" She asked, trying to make conversation.
"Yeah! You wanna see?" He said, and without waiting for an answer, he made the cushion across the room burst, letting feathers spill across them. He burst into fits of laughter and picked one of the feathers and put it in his hair, adding to the few that was already stuck in his tangled green mess.
"Um..that was..interesting..." She had no other words left in her head.
"Do you think I'm crazy?" He asked. She was a bit shocked at him asking a personal question to a person he had only met.
"I don't know if I think you're crazy, I only met you."
"Well, I'm not. I've got A.D.D and a mild form of O.C.D., was diagnosed with schizophrenia four years ago, but that comes and goes, and I've got medication for my A.D.D. and schizophrenia, but I don't like to take them, but they make me."
"Why don't you like to take them?"
"Because they taste like fish!"
"What's wrong with fish?"
"There's nothing wrong with fish."
"Then why don't you like to take them?"
"Miss Deltine, there's a difference between fish and medication that tastes like fish. You'd know if you taste them."
Macy didn't know whether to be offended, to laugh or just to frown. She decided not to say anything.
"What's your powers?" He asked. She set her bare foot on the coffee table infont of them, freezing it.
"Wow!" He gasped.
"And.." she said, and changed into a a crow and perched on the chair. His eyes widened. She changed back and giggled. I also have a very good memory, but that isn't really a power, I suppose. Do you have any others?"
He nodded excitedly. His eyes glared as he looked at her, and the lights in the room flicked on and off.
"Electricity!" Macy said, laughing at the lights. She looked back at him. His hair had changed color to black.
"Mood hair!" He said, changing it back to green. "It changed to my mood. Right now, I'm happy, so it's green. There now I thought of something sad and it changed to black."
"That's so cool." She said, looking at his messy hair with feathers in it.
"What time it is?" He asked, changing the subject completely.
"Oh, 8.19." She said, looking at her watch. 8.19? It was 7.00 a few minutes ago!
"Oh dear, I'm late. Rachel will kill me. I have to go, but I'll see you around. Are you going to the camping trip?"
She nodded and his face brightened up. "Great, I'll see you then!"
She smiled at him as he ran out of the common room and down the corridor. Macy sat in the room, but felt the silence was strange after meeting Steve. She got up and headed towards the dorms, but looked back at the explosion of feathers across the room and the stop where the lamp used to be.
