Macy sat on a large leather sofa that faced a roaring fire in the common room. She was reading a book she got in the library 'The Effects of Ice Control' by Dr. Harry Lindon, seeing what professionals thought of her gift. With every page, a patch of frost grew from her finger tips, then quickly melting away when she turned it. She had been sitting there for about half an hour, not noticing the world around her. She had seen some people come in and go, but she just ignored it all.
She turned another page to 'Chapter 6 - Ice Control though History' and started reading. She got a few pages in, and noticed someone sitting beside her. She looked up and saw that it was one of the girls in her room, but she hadn't talked to yet.
"Hi." she said softly.

Kira had been playing with a glass of water for a good hour now, listening to the sounds of the room around her. After a while, the words had all blurred and the colours and sounds became nonsensical to her. The only thing that seemed real was the constant flickering of the fire in the corner of her eye; which caused her to think about what it would be like it she could control it instead of water.
Sighing, Kira let the ball of water she'd been levitating drop back into her glass of water with a faint plop! Getting up and stretching, Kira curled up in her armchair and watched the flames dance for a while, as strange half-formed thoughts of her wielding its great and terrible power danced around her mind with it.
"Hi."
Kira jumped, turning to stare at the girl before her. She recognised her, although she had not had a chance to speak with her yet. This girl was head of the Academics- and so in her dorm. What was her name... Maisy? May?
"Um... hi," smiled Kira.

"Hi!" she said again. "I'm Macy, I think we're in the same dorm...yeah, I think I saw you when we were at the principle's office, and stuff..." she said, trailing off, not knowing if they were allowed to talk about them being heads or not, or if there was going to be a special assembly for it, or something.
She looked at the girl beside her. She was shorter than Macy, although Macy was very tall for her age. She liked her hair, it was a different kind of blond than Macy's.
"Kira, right?" she asked. She knew her name was Kira, and she knew that she was the head of the Spies, but she didn't want to sound like a stalker. She just remembered things like that. Just then Gypsy jumped up on her lap, in her cat form. "Oh, Gypsy, don't scare me like that!" She shouted at the cat, who gave her a dirty look in return. "Sorry, she likes to do that..." She said, now smiling at the cat. "Do you have any pets?" she asked, trying to make conversation.

Kira smiled at the cat that was now stalking across the room, tail held high in the air.
"Yeah, I have a little bat called Frederick, he lives under my bed," she smiled. "Your cat's lovely! What's its name?"

"Well, this is Gypsy. She started following me round on day, last year, and I haven't been able to get rid of her since!" she said, laughing. "She's a shape-shifter too. It's so much fun with her." Macy said, rubbing Gypsy's neck, where she loved being petted. "Oh, yeah, I'm a shape-shifter. And able to control ice. And I've got a good memory, but I don't think that that's a gift. We also got that other power, didn't we? I don't know what mine is, yet. But I'm hearing more voices in my head than usual, so that might have something to do with it. Do you know anything about your power?" she asked, looking round her incase someone was listening.

Kira started at the mention of her power. Following Macy's lead, she looked about warily. Once satisfied no-one was eavesdropping, she leant forward and lowered her voice.
"No, I haven't noticed anything new..." She bit her lip. "Voices... you think that might be some sort of power? I don't think anything's happened to me... and honestly, it doesn't feel like it will."
She sighed, leaning back again.
"I guess we might as well enjoy the challenge."

"Yeah, like we were chosen for it, we should do something with the power. But I'm sure your power will come to you. Anyway, we should keep a focus on our actual ones, that's why I'm reading this book on Ice Control. They've only got about four books in the library on it, which sucks, and I've already read two of them. Sorry, I'm such a geek." She picked up the book which she had just set on it's spine on the table beside of her, opened to the page she was on and forze it, marking it. "It looks like I'm hurting the book, I'm not. People always shout at me for doing it, but it dosen't do any harm to it. I'll melt it away when I'm reading it again." She sighed and stared at the celing, trying to think of something to ask, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Um..have you heard about the dance yet?" she asked.

Kira looked up sharply. "Dance?"
She hadn't heard about that. Great. Did that mean pressure to bring a date? Or... or she could go with Lee. But then people would tease her for going with her cousin, even though they were more like brother and sister than anything. Besides, Lee might have a date. She couldn't go alone.

"Wow!" she half-laughed. "Em, that sounds great! Got a date, yet?"

"Nope, not yet. I haven't really been soclising ((sp?, lol)) much. I'm not like those type of girls who go loco when they see a member of the opposite sex. I'll see if any one wants to ask me, but I don't think any one would want to." She rolled her eyes. Guys seemed to think that Macy was crazy, but she wasn't. She was just very...flamboyent. Or very dominating. Or both, sometimes.
"What about you?" she asked. Kira probably did have somebody, she was the type of person guys liked. She seemed secretive and would only give away half of the story, giving a mysterous feel about her. Macy was either like 'Do it my way, or get out of my face', 'Let's go sky-diving!!' or '(crying) why didn't you return my calls?!'

Kira shook her head. "Not at all. Honestly, I'd just rather go with some friends and have a good time."
Unfortunately, any male friends she may have might think she was asking them out and freak. That would suck so much. Besides, Kira didn't really like having attatchments- unless of course you meant Lee- because... she liked living in her own world. Wouldn't a boyfriend be distracting?
"We have to wear formal wear, don't we?" she sighed.

"Yeah, I think so. There's a notice up, I don't think it says that you have to wear formal attire, but I think it would be nice. I think there's a dress shop in the local village, so I might go there and see what it's like, but it'll probably be really expensive, though.." she said, thinking about buying a dress. She didn't have a lot of money, so she didn't know what she could do. "If I had the right material, I suppose I could make one, but I don't think it would be ready on time." She stroked Gypsy, who had curled up and fallen asleep on her lap. "Do you have any thing in mind you're going to wear?"

Kira shook her head miserably. "I know nothing about clothes! I just... you know... wear what I find. I never really think about clothes... but... at a dance you can't get away from that."
She giggled. "This is mental! They better have good music!"

"I know, I don't want their 'Live' music to be some band of middle-aged men playing hits from the 70's. They should have some good band, like one that is not too big, but not so small that we haven't heard of them. She started to think about who could play...
"But I think I might go into the little village some day to see what's in it. You should come with me!" she said smiling. "And anyway, it dosen't matter if we don't have anyone to go with, we can still have a good time, no?"

Kira felt a bubble of relief swell inside her at Macy's words.
"Yes," she laughed. "Em, yeah, I'd really, really like that! There's a nice cafe down there, and they sometimes have live music. We could put in some ideas. After all..." she dropped her voice, "we are kind of on speaking terms with the Heads."

Macy smiled and nodded, not really knowing what Kira was talking about, but it didn't really matter.
"Yeah, anyway, I think we are allowed outside the school a bit more often that other students because of, you know. To do research...um..on...what the locals think of the school..." She started laughing.
she leaned back on the chair, but was interuppted by the bell. "Oh, no, I have to go to Elemental Control. But it was nice talking to you!" She stood up and Gypsy jumped down from the seat beside her. She looked around to see if anyone else was near by, but it was only Kira. She quickly changed into a cheetah, and Gypsy changed into a crow and they sprinted off down the corridor. "Bye!" she callled in the distance.
