"Making it... harder?" Kira couldn't believe what she was hearing. And she also couldn't believe she didn't have the strength to fight it. "You're making a mistake," she said slowly. It was Madeleine's mistake to make. God knows, Kira didn't like it. God knows, Kira hated it. But the little cube wasn't shutting right. The latch wasn't clamped and Kira wasn't stable- not yet, anyway. "You shouldn't do it," she closed her eyes and sighed. "Okay. Fine. You shouldn't. But you can. But... I wish you wouldn't."

Madeleine nodded, clamping down hard on her lip to stop herself from making a noise. It wasn't a mistake... after all, if it helped him, how could it be? Shaun would call her masochistic. She didn't care. Especially not now. A few minutes passed in silence, and Madeleine was eventually able to get a grip on her tears. However, although on the outside she was alright, not crying just make it worse, made the black darkness more condensed. Who cared, though? Her sense of pride was now starting to kick in, surprising her. It was awful that something as trivial as pride was the first real emotion that she felt after something like this. But at least she'd stopped crying. She sniffed, and glanced at Kira. "Are you okay?"

Calmness was settling around her now; cool and clammy. She had plans now; mad, half-formed deranged things which spun around her mind without making any real sense. Dreams. Thoughts. Meaningless words and scenarios that she couldn't be bothered chasing up. She would eventually. These ideas were going to bring her closer to Lee once more. It was still Lee. Wasn't it? Wasn't it? "Are you okay?" Kira jumped, startled at being addressed. She looked at Madeleine's sore, red swollen eyes, and her heart shifted uncomfortably. "Yes," she said softly. Of course she was. She had her cube. Her little box of secrets; dark, scary emotions that faded with time. It was being buried as they spoke; back there, at the back of her mind. It wasn't like he was dead. And she took comfort in that. "Are you?"

Madeleine took in Kira's serene expression and felt a strange rush of something almost like jealousy at her calm. "I'll be fine," she said lightly. "It's just the shock." Liar.

Kira nodded, unsure if she believed her. She got up, stretching. "Should we go back in?" she asked uncertainly.

Should she? Madeleine bit down on her lip again. "I don't know... I don't know if I can," she half-spoke, half-whispered. "I might... I might be better waiting until tomorrow. I don't want him to see me like this." Selfish? No. It was for his own good, for him not to see how much he'd unwittingly hurt her. Because it wasn't his fault.

"Alright," Kira said gently, promising herself she'd go back and see him later. But for now, she had to be there for Madeleine. The bell was due to ring any second. Kira shuddered at the thought of having to talk to everyone, and explain what'd happened. But she had to. "Come on," she said, helping Madeleine up. "Let's go."
