Alice....we need to talk.

[Axel]

It was a cool day, not as cold as they days before it and a soft breeze swept over the lake. Axel was sitting on a wool blanket which he had taken from his suitcase and had laid it down flat on the grass, not to far away from the icy water. His legs were crossed and he was nervously tapping the fingers on his right hand on his right knee as he waited, he was wearing a pale grey t-shirt and a pair of worn jeans, he was cold but he could get over it. With his left hand he played with the tip of his right baseball shoe, getting more and more anxious by the minute, every so often he glanced down at his watch to see what time it was, never in his life had time gone so slowly before. he was waiting on Alice, he wanted to make sure she was alright after what had happened, he knew it was her that he saw in the hospital wing and ever since they hadn't spoken to each other. She was always busy with homeworks or had to run herons, Axel had sent her a letter asking if they could meet up and talk things through and he wasn't sure if she was going to reply to it or not.

[Alice Everwood]

Alice walked briskly, clutching Axel's note in her right hand, she was wondering what they needed to talk about, Alice looked up and brushed a strand of long blonde hair behind her ear and saw Axel not too far away from her, she quickened her walk so it was more of a jog in heels. When she reached him she sat down on the blanket and crossed her legs like he had, they were sitting facing each other and she looked at him. She had only not seen him one day but he still stunned her and made her heart skip a beat, she smiled and him and said,"hey"

[Axel]

Axel beamed, he'd missed her and he was so relieved that they were still talking, Alice looked beautiful-as she always did but even more today. "hey you,"he smiled as he looked at her, "what have you been getting up to?"

[Alice Everwood]

Axel looked at him and paused, wasn't he going to tell her? She suddenly broke eye contact with him and stared down at the blanket,"Look Axel,"she began as a pain sheared through her chest,"you can tell me, you don't have to hide it."

[Axel]

Axel looked at her confused, "Don't have to hide what?"he asked curiously.

[Alice Everwood]

Alice studied him carefully, was he joking? "I mean, you and will...being boyfriend and girlfriend..."she said quietly.

[Axel]

Axel jumped with shock, |"What?!"he exclaimed, stunned by this statement, "What...how?"he was speechless, Axel had no idea where the idea came from, him and Will weren't and never would be.

[Alice Everwood]

"But you and her were getting on so well, and she was there for you and all..."Alice's voice trailed off as she noticed there was a hint of sadness in it as she spoke.

[Axel]

Axel just simply smiled at her. "Alice,"he spoke softly and his voice was gentle and kind,"there is nothing going on between me and Will, we're just friends, barely even that. I promise." When he spoke those last two words he put as much sincerity and meaning into it as he possibly could, he looked directly into her eyes as if they were making a promise of their own.

Wow, that was a relief.
Alice smiled and felt a bit embarrassed as she had jumped to such conclusions."Sorry"she said, feeling her cheeks turn red.

Axel smiled warmly at her, "It's okay." He then lent forward and hugged her.
