Abby had made her way through the forest to a lake. Actually what she had persumed as the school's Glass Lake. "Oh yay! Ice," Abby ran full on and onto the ice and started to slide around. "This place is do dam COOL!" Abby shouted, "If only I had my skates," she skidded so fast that she slipped and fell on her ass. "Wow, I haven't down that in ages," she laughed, "I forgot how fun it is," She got up and skidded again and again and again. She looked up and saw a blonde girl watching her from the edge. "Hi," she called and suddenly she skidded fast over to her and ran of onto the bank. "I'm Abby, a newbie here, who're you?" Abby asked. This was how she was introducing herself. She waited for the girl to answer her with a big smile plastered on her face....yet again.

For once, Kira had decided she was actually going to do her homework. She prolonged it long enough, after all, but today being Monday, school was finally up and running again, and she'd been given a rather lovely surprise. The 'Crackpott' had told her that she was moving onto just take control of the ice classes, because a new teacher had arrived at the school, who would be working on Water Control instead. Since Kira had never liked the 'Crackpott' (and never would) she was immediately excited at this prospect of a new teacher. And suddenly, a whole new enthusiasm for her water powers she hadn't felt in years was restored. People said your powers... you know, when you were really intune with them... well, they should be like second instinct. They should always be there. The thing about Gifts was... Well, it was like having a talent. The potential's always there. But without hard work, and development of your skills, that talent's never gonna get very far. The idea was that- evenutually- your powers should just come there. You're always aware of them; can access them at any point, etc, but without needing to think about it. Kira could never have achieved this with the 'Crackpott'. But this new teacher... well, it seemed to be the one positive change at Orchid Hill recently, and Kira was keen to embrace it. It was better than focusing on other things... Steve's disappearance had particularly unnerved her. She didn't want to have to send out Spies to search for him in the enemy camps, for god's sake! It was a big risk- and the idea of what could've happened to him really scared her. And Will's stabbing- goddamit- she'd met Jessen! Why couldn't she have- argh! And then... Then there was her steadily deteriorating relationship with Deron. So really, this new teacher thing was a brilliant distraction. Kira had decided to go to the Glass Lake- there was no larger body of water anywhere else for miles around... except, Kira had forgotten one fatal flaw in her plan. The Glass Lake was completely frozen over. Duh. However, having walked all the way there, Kira couldn't really be bothered going back. She sat herself down on a rock, and switched on her iPod- the one she'd gotten for Christmas, much to her pleasent surprise. She just really had some of her Mum's old Beatles CDs on it, and a lucky find of the Killers in Bethany's album collection (unfortunately, most of it was R&B) which Bethany maintained had been left there by Jason. Still, it gave her something to do. After a while, a black dot appeared in the distance, across the lake... a girl... Kira sat up a little straighter, watching with interest as the girl seemed to run across the lake, coming closer and closer. Just as she reached top speed, the girl fell and skidded, and Kira had to suppress a laugh, she looked so silly. Suddenly, the girl seemed to notice her, and ran over, and began saying something excitedly to her. Taken aback by the girl's hyper, forward manner, Kira pulled an earphone out of her ear. "Sorry," she said weakly. "You're gonna have to repeat that."

Abby giggled. "Hi, I'm Abby, a newbie here, who're you?" Abby stuck out her hand for the girl to shake. "I love music, what do you have on your IPod?" Abby sat down beside the girl and lay back looking at the sky. It really was beautiful

"I'm Kira, Head of the Spies," Kira replied, shaking her hand with a laugh. Something about thsi girl's fast manner reminded her forcibly of Steve, and the way his words sped up as he grew excited. Except... well... this girl seemed permanently excited. "Not much... just the Beatles, and the Killers..."

Abby bolted upright. "Like....like it?! I love it. It's the most amazing place I've ever been in my whole life and I'm well traveled. Well at least in South America!" Abby said in a are-you-joking sort of tone.

Kira laughed, slightly taken aback by her enthusiasm. "That's good. This place is sort of as far away from Ireland as I've ever been... well, except Iceland," Kira smiled. "But I was a baby then. I don't remember it."

"Wow, I've never met and Irish person before, what's it like there?" Abby calmed down a bit and looked at Kira through her blue/green eyes. Her pigtails whooshed around her as the wind picked up a bit.

"Garishly green and far too sodding wet," Kira said, honestly. "What about you? Where are you from?"

"All around South America actually. My parents kept moving a) because of my dads job and b) because they couldn't or didn't like the place we lived in that time, so, I'm not going to go through what they were all like!" Abby eyes widened and smiled. This girl was lovely.
