Rachel sat in dorm #17, staring out the the window. It was 7.30am and she was fully dressed, waiting to go down to breakfast. She realised that the post should be in, so she went out of her room and ran down to the reception. There was a large shelf with boxes, some full of envelopes, some empty. She saw one that said '17' on it and reached in, to find a white envelope. She got hold of it, and ran though the crowds of people, trying to find any mail for them. She had been down there at half seven every mourning, looking for the letter her mother said she sent last week.
She got to her dorm, opened and closed the door then ran and jumped on the bed, ripping open the letter. Inside was a small piece of white paper and she could smell her mother's perfume that she liked to spray on it, to remind her of home. She took out the letter, unfolded it and began to read:
Dear Rachel,
All is well in the Hymer house! Nothing major has changed much...
You're father is in Ireland on business, but he sends his love. So, what all has been happening? How's it like in Magic School? Your grandmother is well, but keeps on telling me that she wants to write to you, so I suppose I'll let her write something in a minute. Well, I'll call you some time to see how you are, and what's happening. All my love, Mother
She saw the fine writing get shaky at the bottom of the page and realised that her grandmother had written to her too.
My dear, Rachel!
I have missed you so, but I am so proud of you for attending my school. What group are you in? I was in the Carers, and I feel that you have that spirit that will put you in it too. Well, since you have the gifts that have been past through generations in our family, I want to tell you some things about how to use them, in only a way that we can use them.
Our family has been known for their talents and gifts, and way back, long before my great-grandmother was born, we were related to a man called Philis Otterman. Now, he too had gifts, but found that he was able to do more, to create curses. Now these curses are for good and evil, and since things are happening in your school (yes, I heard about that poor girl getting kidnapped), I thought that I would teach you some of them, to protect you. I, myself, don't know all of them, but I think that they are all written down somewhere.
My favorite one, when needing to protect me is Apeligo Wrap. Now to do this, it's quite simple, you have to focus your mind on a sheet of silver wrapping around you and saying Apeligo Wrap. This will create a shield around you that is very hard to pierce. Another good one for attacking is Redding. To do this, you have to picture your enemy standing completely still (I know this can be hard at times), and say Redding (And no, I do not know how he came up with these names, they are quite pointless, but they work), and this will make them stop. A very good one is Spearix, and if you picture your enemy with out a mouth and say it, they will by mute. That has come in handy at times!
There are many more, but I am getting tired of writing, but I will tell you more when we meet at Christmas. Keep safe!
Lots of Love, Grandma Beeby x
Rachel read the letter again and sat back. She wanted to try out these curses, but she had no-one. She realised that it was almost time for breakfast, for she folded up the letter and put it in her pocket, before going to breakfast, maybe looking for a victim to try out her newly learnt curses...
