He really was scared, she noted with a surprising surge of affection. It made her feel softer, somehow, towards him. Almost protective. Though it seemed a silly notion. He was much taller than her- or... well, 6 inches felt like a lot. Kira told herself it was just because she was Head. She had a responsibility to the pupils of Orchid. That was all it was. What else would it be, anyway? "Come here," Kira said, hopping up the steps and holding out her hands. "Give me one of your bags."

He felt odd when she held out her hands to him.
Well, it was probably just because he wasn't used to it - God, he had to stop obsessing over that, but it was true. No one had held their hands out to him like that for-
He stopped thinking about that promptly.
It was so strange... It felt like he'd had an electric shock or something. Yes, come to think of it, there had been a definite spark down his spine. That's what it was.
He would have been more concerned about it, but it was gone after a second. Really, it probably wasn't anything to do with Kira holding out her hands at all. Maybe he did have jet lag... He supposed it wasn't out of the realms of possibility.
He wasn't sure whether to give her a bag or not. He definitely didn't need any help carrying them, but would it be rude if he refused?
After a split-second decision, he decided that it would be. Very much so.
"All right," he said, passing her his lightest bag - the violin. He wouldn't have handed it over so easily, but something about her made him sure that he could trust her with it. "You can be a violinist for a while."
OK, now what made him say that? That was practically bordering on a joke. He didn't joke! In fact, why did he just assume that she didn't play? She could be a bloody virtuoso for all he knew.
He blushed a little, wishing he could take back the words.
Stupid Arihant. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Kira laughed, her smile broadening. Carefully, she took the violin, a strange sense of importance settling over her as she clutched it. She knew just how important instruments were to their musicians- Jason had gone mental whenever Kira and Lee had kidnapped his guitar and tried to play a couple of songs. And he was just an amateur! "I'll be great," she smiled, beginning to make her way up the steps. "I can do all of those Irish songs- hey! Do you do any of those?"

He smiled widely as soon as her back was turned, more widely than he had in a very long time. He was far too shy to do it while she was looking, but still... It felt nice.
You're not staying, he had to remind himself. Don't get attached. You know what will happen.
"Um... kinda," he replied, while following her up the stairs and adjusting his flapping scarf with his newly-free hand. "I've never been able to find any sheet music for it, but I got a CD a couple of years back and sort of... figured out a few from there."
He laughed slightly. "I can play 'Danny Boy.' That at least counts for something, right?"
OK, so maybe it would be a better idea just to not think about how strange he was acting around her. He had a feeling his brain might implode if he kept on. He might as well have some fun here while he lasted.
He pulled open the imposing door for her without a thought as to the doubts he had had earlier. She really did... help a lot.
