Francis was the first to see Nadia. He seemed delighted to see her for some reason. She really couldn't understand why. He turned to Ienzo and introduced her. As if she didn't know him already. "You have to meet Nadia, she’s such a legend. I love her.” Well that was a bit blunt, but Francis didn't know about what happened in the woods, what Nadia and Ienzo shared. She felt heartbroken. Francis waved Nadia over to come and sit with them. Even if in some parallel universe, she had wanted to, her legs were like stone. She couldn't move. When Ienzo twisted round to look at her it really felt like her heart was breaking. The tears spilled over, down her face. The look on his face. He didn't want her to see. She'd come to tell Ienzo that she'd kissed Francis and that she was sorry... but what now. He'd seemed so sweet, so loving. She'd thought that he'd felt that smae way about her that she'd felt about him. But then, she'd been lured by Francis too. At that point in time she hated Francis. Really hated him. Ienzo was another matter entirely. She had never believed in love after just a few hours really but with Ienzo. And nobody ever told you that heartbreak hurt so much. Every time she thought about Ienzo, more tears overflowed. She couldn't breathe properly. She looked at Francis again, trying to communicate the hatred without words... she looked at Aeleus - why hadn't he done anything to stop it... but then he was only a cat... Finally Ienzo. She only spared him the briefest of looks before her legs began to work and they carried her out of the library.

Wow. If you ever want to get a clear idea of just what loathing looks like, you’d want to climb right into this moment and take a picture of Nadia. The waves of anger emanating from her were overwhelming, Francis almost felt angry himself although he didn’t understand why. She was absolutely furious; she was disgusted, she hated them both. Baffled, Francis turned to look at Ienzo, who looked horrified to see Nadia. Francis quickly wished he wasn’t in this situation or at least that he could have understood it a little better than he did right at that second. “Um, am I missing something?” he asked them both, tilting his head to the side and trying his hardest not to be heavily influenced by the hatred he was feeling. The hatred was directed at him and at Ienzo.
Francis wanted to untangle himself from Ienzo’s limbs and hold Nadia in his arms. Although she was terrifyingly angry she also looked heartbroken. Perhaps she had thought that that kiss in the hallway had meant something more? His stomach turned to lead. He thought it best to not attempt to engage her in any kind of embrace as it could have fatal consequences for him.

Ienzo felt his heart break. The look on her face, the horror, the hurt , the pain, the brokenness. He’d messed up, big time. His eyes filled with tears. He stood up and watched Nadia run, He would have ran after her if his legs hadn’t collapsed from under him, his eyes faded to a black colour and tears rolled down his cheeks , pouring from his eyes and dripping of his face onto his lap. Sobs wracked his body, his shoulders shaking with tears as hard as they did in the forest. “That, was, my, girlfriend” Ienzo struggled out in between sobs. Aeleus hopped off the sofa and sat down beside Ienzo on the floor. The cat sat like a silent sentry while Ienzo cried.

From the way Nadia had run out and the expression of pure heartbreak on Ienzo’s face, Francis didn’t need Ienzo to tell him what he was missing. They had been a couple. He sat very still for a few seconds; the sofa seemed to shake with each of Ienzo’s heart wrenching sobs. Francis couldn’t believe the mess he had just gotten himself into. It was his first day at the school, how could he have possibly ruined a relationship and foiled two perfectly good friendships within the space of a morning? Francis had always gotten himself into sticky situations, it was like his gift, or should I say curse.
“I’m sorry,” Francis whispered into Ienzo’s ear, his eyes were drawn to Aeleus who was sitting up straight, watching and judging. “I honestly didn’t know.”
Without thinking about it, Francis put his arms around Ienzo, trying to hold him, to let him know that he cared. As soon as he had done this, he realised this probably wasn’t the best idea. He wanted to kiss Ienzo’s tears away, to allow this boy to feel some relief from the initially crippling effect heartbreak has on its victim. But he knew, not from experience but from what he’d heard that most people don’t want someone to kiss heartbreak better. That comes in during the phase where you just want your ex to be jealous.

Ienzo let Francis’ arms fall around him. He listened as Francis apologised, saying he didn’t know about them. Which was understandable, they hadn’t been together long. Ienzo needed to breathe, the air in the library was suffocating, and the only breaths he could take were sharp and short. The oxygen wasn’t making it to his brain and he was getting dizzy. With a shuddering breath Ienzo got shakily to his feet and started to run, Aeleus at his heels. Ienzo shoved the library doors open before him and ran as fast as he could through the corridors, out the front doors of Orchid Hill and into the immaculate grounds, tears running in rivulet down his pained face. With a gasp he stopped, slipped to his knees as he felt the earth shift under his and his vision black out. With a last sob Ienzo slumped forward and passed out on the ground.
