The question surprised him a little, but he soldiered on anyway.
"Yes - both, actually. Well, kind of. I used to fence with my father, and I know a little violin."
He didn't like this - this telling her everything, but... still... It was better to talk about this and keep it away from... from everything else.
"You?"

"Well, I'm not in any way instrumentel but I am in the top group that is in the National Irish Dancing League," she answered back. "What kind of music do you play on the violin? Classical, up to date, jumpy?" well she didn't know much about music.

"I'm not sure what the exact name for it is," he said, slowly. "I mean, I don't really do the whole theory of music thing, I just play for enjoyment. I'm self-taught." OK, so that sounded horribly egotistic. Fix it. "And as a result, not very good." He smiled shyly. "How long have you been dancing for?"

That caught her off guard. "Erm, since I was....since I was...erm, 6, 7 maybe," she screwed her face up while teying to rmember. "It's my passion and I love it so very much. I also do figure skating but I'm not so good at it," she laughed without humour.

"I've never been ice-skating before..." he mused. It was probably just as well - he could tell from what he had seen that it was probably the sort of thing that required a great deal of self-control not to go careening into lots of helpless bystanders. He wouldn't have felt comfortable doing that even under the best of circumstances, circumstances that certainly would not apply to him. "Is it fun?" he asked, after a pause. The canteen was filling up, he noticed. It would probably be advisable for him to go soon.

"It can be. But since I'm not very good at it, I don't find it that fun," She looked around the hall to see it getting fuller and fuller. "Well, I have to go soon. Got to go to the library while everyone is...eating this...gook!" she scrambeled for the right words. "You want to join me? Apparantly it's supposed to be magnificent and filled with every magical book there is on every power in the world," she asked politely.

Gook. He smiled, pretty amused. That was the perfect word for it. "You want to join me? Apparently it's supposed to be magnificent and filled with every magical book there is on every power in the world." Surprisingly enough, he did consider going with her for a moment. A little moment. Then his accursed shyness had to step in and take over things as it nearly always did when he was faced with nearly any social situation. "No thank you," he said, standing up. "I don't think I'm in a fit state for reading anything too heavy right now. I've still got a bit of jet lag." Lies, all li- Well, it wasn't all false. He wasn't in any condition for reading just now, that was true. But he neglected to mention, of course, the real reason - reasons - for his reluctance. Namely, that he still had to decide whether he was to stay at all (and he didn't need some magnificent library wooing him and biasing his decision) and that- Well, he didn't think he could cope with reading about such miraculous powers, not just now. He was jealous enough of everyone else in the world for just being normal, he didn't need these people's... spectacularity (was that even a word?) being rubbed in his face. "I think I'll go for a walk around the campus instead."
((Sorry, I would have had him go with her, but I've already written about him going out on his own that afternoon in other posts))

((Tis fine, it's just her being polite...again...))
"That's fine," she picked up her bag and grabbed her books. "I'll see you around then?" she stated, smiling. She walked away, elegantly. She had to practise her dancing sometime soon.
