"What for?" shrugged Levi. Well, at least Kira was being reasonably nice to him at this stage.

Kira just grinned. "You sound just about as annoyed at her as I am." She sighed, and stretched, flicking the rest of her long hair out of her eyes so that she could look at him properly. She was quite tired by the day, really. And it was late. The clock had just gone 11.30 p.m. "So... anything you want?" He had to be talking to her for a reason. She was no Academic, but she wasn't thick.

Kira was annoyed at Madeleine. Was he surprised? Madeleine had driven a huge wedge, whether intentionally or not, between Kira and her cousin. He smiled at her. "Just to talk."

"With me?" she laughed. "Gosh, you must be bored..." It was true. Levi had never so much as looked at her before, unless you counted the odd jealous glance because she was a Head and he wasn't.

Levi smiled. "Who said I was bored?" Boredom had nothing to do with it. Right now, it was more about finding an ally - about gaining support, and not just from Kira. If or when Madeleine died, they'd need a new Head - and Levi would be it. He knew that some of the Warriors didn't like him, but he'd be d**ned if he let that stand in his way. If Madeleine woke up, Lee knew that she'd go back to Lee - he wasn't stupid. But he could play the part of the tragic hero... Could, and would. And he knew that people would support him in that - it was amazing what orthodontics could do. "How come you're sitting here? Shouldn't you be out with a boyfriend or something?" he said, turning his white smile on her. "Surely someone as good-looking as you has one."

Immediately, Kira was on red alert. "What?" "Don't you have a boyfriend?" he repeated smoothly. His teeth really did hurt. She hated them. She wanted each and every one of them to blacken up and turn to soot. "I do," she said softly. "His name's Deron. He's from Cardsdale." His eyebrows contracted slightly. "A villager?" "Yes," she replied, frowning. "A villager." He chuckled softly, sending a flare of anger washing over her. Careful, Levi. You're treading dangerous waters here... "Something funny?" she asked him quietly. "Nothing," he grinned, "nothing... it's just... I think you could do a little... better." She pursed her lips. "Better how?" Levi smiled at her smugly, and said happily, as though stating the obvious. "Kira, you're Head of the Spies. You're pretty- no doubt brave- talented- caring and compassionate. And of course, you're powerful. Only the best get the top spots. You are one of the best." "How nice," Kira said coldly. "But I fail to see how this relates to Deron." Levi's smile slipped several notches, but he leant back anyway, looking quite comfortable as he stretched. "Is he nice, this guy of your's?" "Very," Kira said. "Sweet. Funny. Kinda cute. Really smart." "Kinda cute?" Levi laughed at her. "Sweet? Funny?" "Something wrong with that?" "Nothing's wrong with that," he shrugged. "It's just... Kira... don't you think he's even a little beneath you? I mean, you need a guy who's gonna be able to relate to you on an equal level. Someone who's all of those things, and more." "I don't need any more." "You deserve it," he smiled, and leant forward. "I could take you to the Hallowe'en party this week..." "You're asking me out?" "Since Deron won't be able to attend, I'd be happy to keep you company." Kira had never seen anymore resemble a hyena more. "Like... a date?" "Like a date," Levi laughed. "I'll come and get you whenever it suits." Kira was stunned- but not to the point where she was incapable of speech. "N- no." "Pardon?" said Levi politely, apparently under the impression he had her in his slimy grasp. Kira laughed suddenly- a surprising sound to make, considering the circumstances. She leant forward, so that their faces were within an inch of each other. "Read my lips," she said loudly and clearly, "Levi Ryder, I am not going to the Hallowe'en party with you- nor I am ever going to go to any kind of party, restaurant, event, etc as your date. In fact, I'd hardly go as your friend. You tell me I deserve better than Deron- I tell you that you pale in comparison to him." And Levi's stunned silence as she got up and left him was sweeter than she could ever have imagined...
