Ailth's adrenaline was up but she and Josh took a mini-break, they'd worked really hard just then. She moulded the metal on her hand to match the sword tip it had once been but couldn't resist adding her little mark, a small intricate dagger. "So how come you're in the Carers?" She spoke to Josh, "'Cause I'm sure Madeleine would be glad to have you as a foot-soldier or whatever terminology she uses. You're one of the better fighters I've had a chance to sparr with. Don't get me wrong these guys are good but they're all a bit too flourishy if you catch my meanin'"

Feeling very much like he was going to blush - though he didn't know why. Josh never blushed. He may be a Carer, and a bit of a wuss at that, but he was not a girl. In fact, compared to a lot of the Carers (and every single Carer would kill him for this), he was really, really masculine. "Well, let's just say my use of other weapons is nowhere near as good as my fencing," he said. "And I got put into Carers because I breathe backwards. I breathe out oxygen, which is obviously really useful. Example, if it wasn't for the miraculous backwards breathing, she would very probably be dead," he added, nodding towards Madeleine, who was kicking some Warrior's ass with her swordwork. "I don't really like being in the Carers that much, but if I save lives, well, I guess it's worth putting up with all the stereotype crap, isn't it?" He frowned for a second. That was a long speech, by his standards. "What about you? I bet Madeleine would kill to have you on her team."

"Nah, I'm more useful as a spy." Ailith finished altering the sword tip and again applied it to the side of her hand but this time keeping its shape. “Besides, I don’t understand the attraction of learning how to decapitate someone unless you do it as a last resort in self-defence.” Ailith looked around. Everyone else was engaged in combat, concentrating mercilessly on their opponent with either the tight smile of near victory on their face or the jaw clench of silent panic. And to think, just a month ago, anyone of these people could be six feet under. Ailith sighed. “Well, reckon we should crack on?”

Josh heard her sigh quietly, and he looked at her. The sunlight from the skylight about him made her blonde hair sparkle slightly, and his eyes got distracted by the sheen of it. "Well, reckon we should crack on?" she said, turning to look at him. He looked away from her hair slightly guiltily. "Sure," he replied, drawing his sword again.

They sparred for the rest of the session straight through, resulting in Josh winning only once. But he made Ailith work for it. They were both sweating slightly and panting when Madeleine called time. "Phew! That was great. Please say you were trying to beat me 'cause if that wasn't you trying then I am personally going to kick your ass into the Warriors, regardless of your other weapon skills." Ailith re-attached the sword tip to it's proper place before sheathing it and turning it in. She waited for Josh to do the same and went over to warm down with the other Warriors.

"Phew! That was great. Please say you were trying to beat me 'cause if that wasn't you trying then I am personally going to kick your ass into the Warriors, regardless of your other weapon skills." Josh laughed as she stalked off, turning in her sword and over to where the Warriors were cooling off. He walked towards Madeleine at the weapons store, who smiled at him. "Sorry I threw you in at the deep end there," she said, catching the sheathed sword as he tossed it lightly towards her. The deep end... Ailith was really, really good at this, and Madeleine probably thought that he'd gotten his ass kicked. He thought that that would have happened too. It was probably a miracle that he'd beaten her. Where'd she learn to fence like that anyway? He wasn't sexist, but he could easily see Levi Ryder spitting in consternation at how good Ailith was with a sword. Hell, Levi even had a problem with Madeleine's fighting skills. Ooh, there was a thought. Ailith vs Madeleine... That'd be a close fight. But Ailith wasn't a Warrior. She'd obviously learned to fence like that elsewhere. He didn't know where, but it had to be somewhere. She was an enigma... An extremely pretty enigma who happened to be kick-ass with a sword.
