"You should've way before now," Kira admitted. "Sorry."

"Yeah, I should have," Madeleine said. "So can I meet him soon?"

Sooner than you think... "Promise," Kira crossed her heart.

"Good," Madeleine said, leaning back against the headboard.

Kira laughed, getting up and beginning to change into her pyjamas. As she was buttoning up her shirt, she left her mind wander for a couple of seconds. "What was your and Lee's first kiss like?" she asked quietly.

Madeleine sighed and slid down the bed under the covers. "Would I sound cheesey if I said it was amazing?" she asked, laughing, but feeling slightly wistful, and a little irritated. She didn't want to think about Lee now. She'd just gotten him out of her head.

"Very," laughed Kira. "But it's nice to know my cousin's that well thought of." She climbed into her bed, sliding beneath the covers and sighing to herself as she gazed dreamily up at the ceiling. A rare romantic mood had settled over her now, and she felt like asking all those same old fairytale questions. Even though she knew somewhere beneath it all fairytales never really came true. "D'you believe in soulmates?"

She sighed, drawing the quilt around her. "Yes," she answered simply, thinking of Shaun and Cecelia. How could she not, after that? What was a soulmate, anyway? The person you were going to spend the rest of your life with? A good friend, someone that would always, always be there? The person that you really, really loved? What was love? No one could ever describe it, or explain it... Did she love Lee? Not quite, but maybe - maybe - she could, if it weren't for the arguments and the awkwardness. If it wasn't for the thought in her head that they were unstable. And there she was, thinking about him again. Thoughts of him couldn't leave her head for very long. It was really, really quite annoying.

"Really?" Kira wasn't sure what she'd expected, but the answer came as a surprise to her anyway.

Madeleine nodded. "Yeah. I believe my brother found his, before he died. If you'd seen her... well, you'd have to believe." They'd been young at the time, but Madeleine didn't believe that youth should hold any barriers to anything. Life is just too d*mn short for that. "Do you?" she asked.

Kira now struggled with herself. "I don't know..." she said slowly. "But... soulmates may not matter anyway, because if you were already in love with someone else when you met your soulmate, you couldn't just fall out of love, could you?"

"Soulmates don't always have to be romantic partners," mused Madeleine. "Why?"

Kira shrugged, rolling over. "Just a thought." The blackness was rolling in now. Sighing, she got up and turned out the light. "I'm exhausted."

"Night," smiled Kira, closing her eyes. She knew full well she wouldn't get a wink of sleep tonight...
